In the image are two Textured PEI Hotplates. The top one came with the P2S, the lower one is Bambu Lab (trademark next to the icon), purchased on Amazon before the P2S was released. Although the P1S PEI’s icon is smaller it basically is the same as the P2S icon (excluding the white frame).
When using the older plate the P2S fails to read the older plate’s ID icon as a Bambu Lab Textured PEI Hotplate and the print will not proceed until I manually “proceed”. It’s not that big of a deal but it would seem like there would be a way for the P2S to recognize and accept the plate now that it has been user approved and is, after all, a Bambu Lab product.
For this type of automatic detection to work, the firmware should always be up to date. Is it?
The P2S requires a P2S print plate, yet you are using a P1 print plate. It’s not surprising that the device isn’t happy about it. The recognition system is trained on P2 plates, not P1 plates.
As far as I know, the new printers require that the identification logo be applied in white. Which is only the case with the P2 plate. If you compare the logos closely, you’ll see that they look different, too.
Could Bambu do things differently? Sure. However, won’t happen, since they’ve already committed to this approach.
Solution: You could stick a printout of the logo on it - or just ignore it
I had made the assumption the plates were identical, just manufactured at different times/years. Thinking back to a previous print the P2S plate had a stronger grip on the finished PLA requiring more effort to release the finished parts.
The other side of the P1S Textured PEI is a Smooth PEI. I have not printed on it since getting the P2S. I hope the results will be more P2S-like on it as it is smooth.
