[UI/UX Proposal] Bambu Handy iOS Live Activity redesign concept

I’ve been utilizing the iOS Live Activity feature on Bambu Handy frequently, but the current UI implementation suffers from several layout anomalies, text-clipping bugs, and non-native styling choices that conflict with Apple’s official Human Interface Guidelines (HIG).

To solve this, I built a fully native, stripped-back redesign system (currently in Figma) that systematically declutters the interface, improves glanceability, and adheres strictly to iOS hardware safe zones.

  1. Dynamic Island

  • Compact View: Replaced text with a simple, high-contrast structural status ring (or an Amber Pause one when halted) paired with a clean time layout. This completely removes the risk of text truncation and scales effortlessly.

  • Minimal View: Detaches into a standalone micro-ring or pause capsule that cleanly scales along the hardware notch without obstructing system indicators. Very similar to the current design, almost no complaints here, only the border colour.

  • Expanded view: Removed the print icon and logo, focused attention on the countdown. Changed the layout heavily, shifted to the straight-up pill and not the rounded rectangle that is right in the middle of two formats.

  • Border colour: On dark backgrounds, the Live Activity border is blue for some reason. Replaced with the standard Bambu Lab green.

  1. Lock screen and Standby

  • Integrated Layer Count: Introduced a Layer column matrix directly into the main data grid so users can monitor print complexity at a distance.

  • Timeline Pause Milestones: The linear progress tracks on the Lock Screen now feature integrated milestone dots. These indicators visually map out manual pauses that require manual intervention (assuming the sliced print file contains the appropriate metadata). If no metadata is present, the track cleanly defaults to a standard smooth progress line.

I would love to hear feedback from the community and hope the software development team considers these modifications for an upcoming patch!
