Unable to feed filament error

Printer: A1 with AMS spool holder thing
Filament: basic plastic type ordered from Bambu
Rage level: 9,000

I don’t know if I’ve ever regretted a purchase so much. Printer is brand new (Xmas gift for my family), and we’ve successfully printed two single-color things. On the third print when the machine was trying to switch to a second color, we got the message that the printer was “unable to feed the filament into the extruder.” We’ve since gotten this error a dozen more times, each time we try to print after attempting a remedy.

As you can see in the photo, sometime the filament just comes out of the PTFE and curls around. This doesn’t happen every time.

Here’s what we’ve tried:
-new nozzle

-printing in a different color

-taking piece with AMS printed on it off, removing the PTFE tubes, putting them back in and putting the AMS back on.

  • taking the folding out of the PTFE tubes and reloading it.

  • putting the plastic cone shaped thing back in position in the AMS.

  • using the extrusion function on the printer to feed a piece of filament through to make sure there’s no clogs. (See pic.)

  • hours of chatgpt troubleshooting

Please help me before I take a sledgehammer to this thing.

Hi - sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. It can be frustrating. The photo is a bit blurry, but you say the filament is coming out of the PFTE tube? If that is the case, there is a split in the PFTE tube that the filament is hanging on and that might give the “stuck filament” indication because of the resistance of the filament on encountering the edge of the split. Is the issue confined to filament in that one port? If so, I’d say that may be the culprit.

You can purchase replacement PFTE tubes on the parts website.

Also, I can’t quite tell what is happening in your photo of the AMS lite head, but in my printer when the filament isn’t loaded, the edge of the filament is extracted so that it sits above the head (the ends are visible in the PFTE tube). In your case, the photo looks like all of the filaments are trying to sit in the tube at one time, which may also cause an issue because everything is jammed. I’d try retracting every thing so that the AMS lite head is clear and then trying again with printing a multicolor test.
