Unable to send out filament/extruder not working

I’ve been having a problem with my X1C where it first started complaining that the extruder may be clogged. I disassembled it, found no issues, so I replaced the extruder anyway.

That got it working, but i’ve been plagued by this one AMS slot where it gets to the buffer and stops, so I nudge it and it continues, then it goes into the print head and stops just short of going in. I nudge it there, it’s detected, and moves on.

Now today, on the final layers of a long print, and I’m getting the same from the other AMS as well, but it’s reporting that it’s failing to send out filament. I watch it go all the way into the print head, the little green light for the sensor comes on, but it pulls it back and tries it again. After three tries, it gives up and shows the error again. I also replaced the PTFE tube that goes into the print head.

I’ve replaced the (complete) hotend and extruder to no avail. The sensor senses the filament in the print head, but for some reason that’s not enough to make it happy to start extruding.

I’m out of things to replace here, and can’t tell what check might be failing. The online help really doesn’t give me any clues beyond what I’ve tried.
