Unaccounted 8.5 hours in Bambu Studio slice results (H2C)

I just got an H2C to add to my existing H2D and I’m printing a large multi-color toy for my daughter with 8 different filaments. For fun I sliced it for my H2D and H2C to compare the time saved by the vortex hot-swapping nozzles.

The H2C says it will take about 22.5 hours and the H2D will take about 30.5 hours. There is a difference of about 8 hours saved with the H2C. However when looking at the breakdown of the time spent on each action, it doesn’t look like it adds up to me. All the steps and print times are roughly the same between the H2D and H2C with the only obvious difference being with the H2D it shows over 16 hours for purging and I dont see any purging on the H2C. However, the time difference works out to only ~8 hours. After I added up all the visible time entries for the H2C, they only total about 14 hours 8 minutes, which means ~8.5 hours are unaccounted for.

Clearly there is time overhead with the vortex in hot-swapping the nozzles but it isn’t actually shown. Am I missing something here or has Bambu Studio just not been updated yet to support displaying the vortex overhead time?

The preview doesn’t include time for nozzle changes - it’s strictly showing stuff that “the nozzle” does while “active” - it kinda mashes the action of all nozzles and both extruders down into one for the purpose of the preview. Since I don’t see any data saying how many filament changes the print has, I’ll do some quick math. We know each change averages 45-ish seconds. If you take that 8.5 hours and divide by 45 seconds, that’s 680 color changes. Considering your print is around 570 layers, that seems like a plausible number of changes to me, so I’m fairly comfortable putting the time difference down to Vortek nozzle changes.

On top of that - unfortunately, you’ve painted over it, but some information is right below:

  • H2C: Saved 398g and 1078 changes
  • H2D: Saved 165g and 378 changes

What I mean is: It’s not just the nozzle system, but also the entire setup with the AMS and which filament you’ve loaded into which slots.

  • H2C: PLA #1 and PLA #11 on different nozzles
  • H2D: PLA #1 and PLA #11 on same nozzles

For a truly accurate comparison, the setup - including filament assignment and AMS - would have to be the same.

The comparison between the H2C and H2D was just the background of where the question came from. The main concern here is that the H2C breakdown of time by line type has 8.5 hours that is unaccounted for. If you add up all the line types/actions on the H2C it 8.5 hours short of the total print time.

As another commenter said, it’s almost certainly related to the vortex nozzle changing overhead. For some reason this 8.5 hours of time, a major chunk of the print time, is simply missing. Hopefully an upcoming update of Bambu Studio will fix this.
