Using a Bambu Lab A1 with AMS.
While printing up a handle and cross piece for a sword I am making for my son, I am having trouble with the underside of the overhangs coming our stringy as seen in the photo. I am using the tree supports to minimize waste and I have tried the ironing feature as well as the smooth feature when printing but it keeps coming out like this!
Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
While it might not be as convenient, or even possible if you can’t edit the model, the cleanest result would come from printing it in two separate parts and then assembling them.
There are some things 3D printers cannot do well, and this is one of those.
Supported surfaces never look great. I would try printing it upside-down, making the undersides top surfaces instead.
Regular PLA will handle that better than PLA silk. Silk puffs and contracts if extruded into air so it gets extra messed up
In general though, overhangs will look a little raw. You can try to reduce the gap distance between the support and the object. It’ll get slightly better with every 0.01 and then all of a sudden itll fuse solid and you wont be able to get it off cleanly.
I tried printing with regular PLA including the official Bambu PLA and still got the “stringys”
