Understanding Cloud User Presets Limit, Custom Filament Setup

New to Studio. As I learn and work with what seems convoluted to me, I’m building some non BL filaments into my system.

My understanding is this sort of hierarchy:

  1. I have filaments I need to create, these are defined as custom filaments and are transferred to the printer to be selectable there, on it’s control panel. My perception is this is the definition and subcategory (serial they call it) as basically what I need to know to pick the spool out of a cabinet or an AMS. e.g. Vendor, Type, Color
  2. I have filament Presets, where parameters associated with a printer (H2D in my case) are defined. e.g. parameters to use for a specific nozzle size. These are not pushed to the printer, and live in Studio.
  3. I have “Process” presets that can apply to any filament preset selected. (Although, I though I saw some duplication there and don’t know who wins if that exists, different question)

Now we have this statement from BL on the Wiki where it covers custom filaments:
When user preset synchronization is enabled, the newly created filaments presets will be uploaded to the server cloud.
However, the server level can only store a limited number of user presets. Currently, we only support 20 printer presets, 100 process presets, and 200 filaments.”

  • I get the “printers” limit form that statement, I only have 1 so no problem there.
  • Process”- I assume that fits process, #3 above, I don’t see that being a problem but…
  • Filaments”, what does that limit apply to? To physical Filaments set up at the top level (#1 above) e.g. “Hatchbox PETG Red”, or for filament presets that go under that filament, e.g. “Hatchbox PETG Red H2D 0.4 nozzle” With a lot of permutations of filaments and filament presets seems like that could get out of hand. Besides the fact it would be a royal pain to duplicate presets for every color of the same brand you have.

It’s even worse now - the wiki page hasn’t been updated yet, but as of Bambu Studio 2.2.0.85, they only support 100 filament profiles - it displays the X/100 limit right on the Batch Preset Management UI. Only about 2/3 of my filament profiles now load (the UI says I’ve used 167/100 presets) on my printer for me to be able to select from in the printer UI, and I haven’t even created filament profiles for other nozzle sizes yet.

These limits are just unacceptable. I really hope that more people complain about it, because right now I can’t even select fully 1/3 of the filaments that I own from the printer UI anymore (and I used to be able to).

They sell AMS units, they want people to buy a lot of different filaments, and then they go restricting our ability to fully make use of these products. I love my X1C, but after this change, my future printers won’t come from Bambu.

I too am annoyed by this message. I don’t need to store my presets in Bambu’s cloud, I will be happy to store in my own cloud, Bambu Lab needs to give people options, not this useless popup
