H2D Bambulab Timelapse in “Smooth” Mode – Unnecessary Movement in the Sequence
I’ll keep this short and to the point.
Details:
Timelapse: Yes
Mode: Smooth
Purge Tower: Yes
Nozzle: Right
Bambulab Studio Version: 2.40.70
Printer Firmware: 01.02.02.00
Device: H2D
Current Sequence (What Happens):
After a layer finishes printing, the extruder moves to the park position.
A photo is taken.
The extruder moves from park position to the print object.
The extruder moves to the Purge Tower.
The extruder moves back to the print object.
The next layer starts.
The cycle repeats.
Issue:
Step 3 (extruder moves from park position to the print object) seems unnecessary and causes blobs on the print part, which should actually land on the Purge Tower.
Desired Sequence (What Should Happen):
After a layer finishes printing, the extruder moves to the park position.
A photo is taken.
The extruder moves to the Purge Tower.
The extruder moves back to the print object.
The next layer starts.
The cycle repeats.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’ve attached a GIF that shows the incorrect sequence at first half of the GIF.
I’ve also included an image that shows how blobs are forming on the print part, which should be landing on the Purge Tower instead.
It seems like it’s using a pause between layer for this.
And what I noticed is that it parks the tool head. Moves to it’s cleaning position end when resumed, always returns to the exact position where the pause was triggered.
And that is the point on the part.
if your filament is oozing slightly, this will cause these artifacts.
Definitely worthwhile to report it to BambuLabs in a ticket.
But I also see 2 fast solutions:
Disable “Smooth mode” timelapse and use the standard mode. Less nice TL’s but better part.

I don’t actually print with Smooth TL mode, but only once per job for a “nice” TL.
I don’t have this problem with regular printing or in normal TL mode.
And just because the path sequences in the G-code are incorrect, I’m not going to adjust my parameters to reduce oozing ^^ just for this one piece per order.
so … I will therefore also open a ticket directly. My recommendation is therefore not to use smooth TL mode until there is a fix for it.
Maybe I’ll take a look at the G-code myself when I have the time and inclination to see if I can find anything that points to this repeated path error.
i found the error - but only way to avoid the wrong path after the picture in “Smooth Timelapse” is taken, is to deactivate the function “Avoid crossing Wall”
