My X1c started with a noise today that I haven’t noticed before. The printer is relatively new (bought it during the last big sale) but I have been using it almost daily.
I’ve done the recommended maintenance regularly, since I print mostly ABS/ASA
Well you didn’t hear it because you were probably distracted. It’s fun when you print a big circular object and shoot it up to sport or ludicrous modes.
Try printing in something with cross hatch or gyroid infil fast. You’ll think your printer will fall apart.
For circular features, print noise can reflect the STL’s mesh quality. Most slicers approximate circles with many short linear G1 segments (unless arc commands G2/G3 are used). Coarse or inconsistent segmentation adds frequent tiny direction changes, which can make motion sound squeaky or chattery; finer, consistent segments—or fitted arcs—tend to run smoother and quieter.
