Ive just connected my ptfe tube adapter because I want to use glow coloured
filament, im a little confused about a couple of things. Is there a motor I can
buy which will recognise external spools and pull the filament in just like a
ams? Its just certain filament you can not use with the ams so im looking for
another option. If not, how far do I have to push the filament in, past the
adapter? At min ive left it just before the adapter, is that the correct thing to
do?

There is not really a standalone motor like the AMS that auto-feeds external spools; most people just feed it manually. Usually you push the filament through the PTFE until the printer’s extruder grabs it and starts pulling it in.
Hey man thanks for the reply. You cant push them all into the ptfe adapter tho at the same time can you and jus push through from there, you have to have it just before the adapter correct??
I’m not sure which ptfe adaptor you mean, I have one but just for convenience when switching filaments.
If an adaptor is connected to two AMS units for example, then one filament will be retracted and the other automatically pushed in from the 2nd AMS. But if connected to two unmotorised spool holders, then the adaptor is just for convenience, you still have to manually pull back and feed in each filament. Cut small pieces of ptfe tube to fit into the adaptor, and feed the filament in through them. Easier than trying to push it directly into the adaptor.
Im doing a hueforge, its only 2 colours black and green. Ive just thought of somethingelse, as im doing a multi print and the glow is the second colour to be used and is not connected to the printer when I start the print how exactly do I get the printer to recognise the colour b4 printing? (Edit: Ive found out you do this in the software)

edit: also about how far I push in the filament, im jus asking if I push it as far as I can all the way up the ptfe tube n actually into the connector on the adaptor or do I stop short until I want to use it, im not sure how the junction of the 4 way adapter works. Sorry
Id make this all a bit easier n buy a second ams but then im still left with the problem of the glow wearing it down. Someone is missing a buck in this game by not supplying a seperate motor for spools

It is important that you realise, unless you connect an AMS to any inlet, you must manually load any filament by the load button, manually feeding the filament and applying pressure until you see filament come out of the nozzle, if not, you tell the printer it hasn’t and repeat until you do.
I also refer you to my prior answer that points out glow can and does work in the AMS.
That just means you don’t have to do anything with the PTFE tube like changing it whenever you change filament but it does not mean you don’t have to change the filament.
You print with your filament in the AMS, when printing with this filament is finished, it will cut the filament and reel it back in the AMS, leaving the 4-1 adapter empty.
If you want to use the filament from the external holder you need to push it all the way to the hotend, the printer will recognize the filament is inserted and you then use the load command in the menu and you can print with the spool holder.
When printing with that color is finished, it will cut the filament (or you have to click unload it for that to happen, I can’t remember) and you will then have to manually pull back on it by rotating the spool until it gets out of the 4-1 adapter.
Just follow at each step instructions on the printer screen

Hi, yes but the ams doesnt support all these other filaments, it seems everytime I want to print anything other than Pla its not advised. Wish there was a better way but thank you both for clarifying the use of the adaptor to me, ive got the H2S
Ok ive got another problem, I put glow into one of the filaments in bambu lab but instead of choosing it, it ran number 2 which was grey, so if anyone can tell me how ona colour change you can get it to stop so I can put in the glow, as I tryed adding a pause but it wasnt in the options. Im confused
Yet, Glow is PLA. Sparkle, Galaxy & Carbon fibre are all part of the PLA family and are all compatible with the AMS, AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT, and many by the AMS Lite.
The same is true for all PETG, ABS, ASA, PC, PA6-GF, PAHT-CF, and TPU for AMS.
Some of those that can’t or only specific models.PA6-CF, PPA-CF, PET-CF, PPS-CF, and most TPU.
Those that can’t are usually due to the filament makeup.
As I said before, all of this information is available on the product page for each filament right above the buy button, so you cannot miss it.
This is confusing.
Are you saying you added the filament into the Bambu Studio prepare tab, told it to print, and it chose the wrong filament?
If so, setting the filament in the Prepare Tab tells the project what you would like. When you print, you need to confirm the swatches match what you expect, as you can choose other slots if you want.
A few questions/facts/assumptions to help me understand
1 you have an H2S
2 you have an AMS (of some version)
3 you are doing a Hueforge and it seems one of the filaments you are trying to use will not work in the AMS so you got a 4 to 1 PTFE adapter so you could hook the AMS and an external spool up and not have to keep disconnecting the PTFE tube to switch.
4.What filament brand and nozzle size are you using?
Does that seem correct?
Some misc thoughts.
some filaments are only for certain size nozzles, so if you have a nozzle on that Bambu does not want you to use for that filament it won’t show up as a choice in the normal selection.
There are other threads on here about people having problems getting the filament selection to work they way they think they should and one of the resident experts (not me, as in “I am No expert”) usually points out what the full process is to get it to work. I’ll try to do a search after I post this but maybe someone else who responded on those can do it faster.

You’re missing the important picture of when you sent the print to the printer. This is where the AMS is matched (and can be adjusted) to what is in the printed file. The location in Studio of each filament doesn’t need to be related to where it is located in the AMS.
Thanks for the replys guys your all a great help to me although im still struggling to understand how this all works. Apologies about no picture, ive now taken one, it shows ive put the pla glow in but on number to or layer change at 11 it actually chose bank 2 in the ams, I was hoping because the ams didnt have glow connected it would pause n let me change it. This is the print and my poor attempts, and yes Thud that is exactly correct. Ill take a pic of my poor set up in a mo, what im trying to do. Do I set the glow as a external spool in bambu instead of in the ams mayb? Is that possible? Thank you all
I just realised its set as number 4 so if I move it to 2 will it work, stop printing and remove its filament allowing me the time to put the glow in? Thank you
It looks like you have chosen: black, glow green, grey and white by use of the layer bar colour change feature.
You also have these setup in the prepare tab.
Important:
You do not have to match the colour order from the prepare tab with the AMS.
You put all four colours in your AMS, the slots do nit matter.
You MUST tell the AMS what type of material and colour for the three generic filaments as these are not BL filaments, they do not have the RFID tags that automate that process for you.
You set up the AMS filaments in Bambu Studio (or Bambu Handy app) device tab.
Select each AMS slot in order that isn’t already correctly matched as glow will be.
You do need to correctly assign the type and colour to the AMS slot.
You click the swatch for each slot in turn
Set the filament type (like you did on the prepare tab)
Set the colour, as close as you like (like you did on the prepare tab)
Confirm
Move to the next swatch until all are correctly set
Now slice the plate by going back to the prepare tab and using the slice button.
Go to print the model, this will display the print window. I gave you a screenshot of this above with the thumbnails. Verify the black matches black and so on.
Then print.
If you do this, it will all work without intervention and you do not need the external spool.
Update:
When you are on the print window, the swatches should automatically match what you set in the project. If they don’t, click each one and choose the AMS slot it should use.
