Using the Support Option when Printing on X1-Carbon

I seem to be printing files, that require support. I have tried using dedicated support filament for this, however the print time doubles in some cases and sometimes the support filament and PLA do not adhere to each other and i get a mess.
So, recently I have been using the same PLA filament for the main print and support. I have tried using the auto feature and used tree and standard support.
I am having a very hard time getting the support to break away from the main structure. I am spending huge amounts of time cleaning away the support.
Should i change the thickness of the support wall. Currently i think it is default set at 0.2mm. Maybe i should try 0.1mm?

There’s a way to get Studio to use support material only for the interface between support printed with model filament and the model itself. I haven’t used it yet but have seen it mentioned here. Saves time and support material but can’t tell you how to do that but it should be in the wiki.

But what you might also want to experiment with is z-axis distance between the support and model. It’s just below where you enable support. I believe 0.2mm separation is the default but you can tighten that up (more adhesion to the support but a more accurate surface) or loosen it up (less adhesion but more surface defects). There’s been threads here about it all. Just search for support. I’ve found 0.15mm (top z) gives good results on my printer and I can still peel the support away. Note there are values for separation when it prints support on top of your model as well as for above the support to support model overhangs and bridges, etc.

And if you get adventurous, there’s water soluble support material you can use for the interface that just dissolves away.
