Vertical Lines and Stringing on tall thin print

I tried printing this three times on my A1 Mini. First print is on the right second print is in the middle and third on the left. I dried my filament and changed from Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 to Bambu PLA Basic and it keeps happening. I tried a temperature tower and printed it at 210 instead of 220 and got the same issue. Any ideas of what is happening here and how I can fix it would be greatly appreciated. There is a vertical line on the clip section and the back corner with major stringing between them. There is also one around the thumb hole on the opposite side.

Please provide a screenshot of the Bambu Studio preview tab (sliced) using the line type view.

I wish to see the orientation you printed with any support material and the direction of axis travel.

Make sure we see the whole build plate in the zoomed view and the legend.

Here you go. I took one with Outer Walls and Sparse Infill turned off as well so you can see the seam location easier.

Why is it upside down?

Surely the best way up would be the other end on the build plate. It would have the best adhesion.

Given the A1 mini is a bed slinger (I love mine), ideally, you reduce the unnecessary movement.

If you rotated 90° so the whole bed isn’t moving as much. This will greatly reduce the potential for wobble. Combined with the upside down orientation, much of the movement will go away.

45° would also be good as it splits the difference.

It is likely the movement causing the issue as models that are tall and thin need consideration when on a bed slinger.

I believe it is this way because the top part is open and the part on the plate is closed, but this is how it was positioned when I downloaded it off Makerworld. I will try rotating 90 degrees and see if that fixes it. Thanks for your help!

I did the 5 cards+ Clip version.

I am going to try and print it on its side now.

I am about to print this as a test for you.

I understand why it is the way up now, on your screenshots, I couldn’t see the opening for the cards.

I will print it as the designer oriented it.

I will then print another at 90° irrespective of success of the first.

I have had two successive failures using their orientation on my A1 mini.

However, I think that might be an issue my end.

As a disabled person, I avoid things that are difficult.

Instead of cleaning build plates, I have been buying new ones. I have run out of new ones and I believe the issue is a contaminated build plate. Normally, in this situation o would move to one of the other four printers, but ad thus is an A1 mini issue, I only have one of those.

I have just washed a different build plate and swapped them. I hope I did it correctly as I haven’t done it often and everything is hard.

Third time lucky using their orientation as I wish to have a benchmark.

I am determined to give you a second opinion using the same gear, fingers crossed.

Thank you for your help. I tried on its side and I tried turning the print and neither seemed to help very much.

The third try failed. I don’t know if that was the build plate I cleaned or the model.

I am going to regroup and try again.

It failed again.

At this point, it could be the cables & PTFE tubes snagging as I just adding a new top mount handle with external spool adapter so I could still use it easily with the AMS I added using the buffer.

It could be the build plate as I don’t have a great strength to stand or manipulate my hands for the cleaning process.

However, I have ordered two new build plates which should be with me tomorrow (Monday) so I can rule that out.

I have started, so I will finish.

I have the same setup with the external adapter attached to a top mount handle. I am leaning towards this being a vibration issue of some sort as nothing else seems to be fixing the issue.

New plates arrived just over an hour ago!

I have printed one at my recommended 90°.

It finished, stayed upright, has real problems.

The area where the clip is, is really bad.

I am currently printing the way the designer chose, I will report back.

I am trying again after adding support to the clip.

The version oriented by the designer with additional support I added has printed.

It printed this time.

However, the quality is poor.



I am printing the same version without the clip, which seems likely to be the factor causing the imperfections based on their locations.

It is identical to the one in the profile with no changes or support added by me.

If this is smooth, it is the clip causing the issue. If it is smooth, I will print the clip version on one of my P1S printers.

The test print without the clip on the A1 based entirely on the designers profile worked without issue.

As I suspected, it is the clip causing the issue. Likely, the extra travel combined with the retractions from a mostly unsupported area so close to one that is.

I am printing a test of the 5 slot with clip on one of my P1S printers, simply for comparison.

I have put five cards in the holder, they are jammed in and really difficult to remove. The newer cards that lack the embossed characters will likely slide right out.

You may wish to test this is something suitable for your mix of cards. A different design will resolve the two issues.

I have printed the 5 plus clip model using the A1 Mini profile version with no changes other than the printer.

It printed well, but still had issues halfway up, nothing like it did on the A1 Mini though.

This confirms what I was thinking. I will likely just go with a version without the clip as it seems like that is what is causing the issues. I tested my cards on one of the failed prints and they should fit fine. Thanks for all your help on this!
