Very difficult to remove support

Detailed description of the problem : just receive my new BAMBULAB X1C I try a small box to configure support. The printing was perfect, but I had difficulties removing the supports and, finally I was destroying the aspect of the overhang. See pictures.
Beginner in 3D printing, your advices would be really appreciated.

I do want to print the small box as shown. I know it is not an easy position but I want to precisely test the configuration of the supports.

  • Printer model used BAMBULAB X1C
  • Slicer settings used BAMBU STUDIO
  • Type of filament used PLA standard
  • .3mf file (if the file can be shared) Fusion

Are you not able to print the box as you have it shown in the picture here? I wouldn’t think any supports would be needed in that orientation.

I had seen a video about supports and have used the suggested settings many times without issues.

Support settings:
Top Z Distance: .24
Top Interface Layers: 3
Top Interface Spacing: .12
Support object XYZ Distance: .35
Initial layer expansion: 8

My preferred support settings are to use always:

  • [Layer Height] - 0.04 as Top Z Distance
  • 3 Top Interface Layers
  • 0 Top Interface Spacing [this is not z gap, this is how solid the interface is]

And then to muck around wtih threshhold angle / painting supports / build plate only etc until the model seems adequately supported in the preview.

3 layers plus 0 spacing means that the interface is a big fused mass and if you get any grip on it at all, it’s all coming off in one piece

If you find you run into this problem often, they make specific support filament that makes it easier (most of the time) and cleaner to remove supports. They even have a support that dissolves in water leaving you with your unsupported print, that one is in my cart, having tried it yet.
