My adult son and I share a love of fun cars. We both own 20 & 21 year old Porsche 911 Carera S Cabriolets as weekend drivers.
Anyway I D/L’d Porsche Badge (3 color) to print for a small key chain and a slightly bigger plaque for my grandson’s bedroom.
The model was ■■■■ and printed bad.
So I found a PNG to convert to a SVG > brought into AC Fusion 360 to make a nice model > exported the finished mesh STL > imported into BBL Studio to slice and print.
Standard Stuff I know but new to me. I’m retired and had a blast.
Loved the results and decided to share which I am new at.
So…couple days later…I get notified Porsche had issues with copyright. So they took down.
All good to me. BUT then I saw BBL actually punished me by talking credits out my account as punishment?
YET I can go online and see hundreds of logo’s of fun prints.
I email Porsche to a woman that sent the email to remove to BBL but she never responded. But didn’t expect to.
Can someone help me understand? I am okay taking down but really resent for being punished. I have ZERO interest in ever making a dime on my models.
It is frustrating, but they have a legal right to do so.
Should Bambu take points away from you? sure, they think you did something wrong and it is their platform. Though doing stuff like that rubs me wrong when they do not do it for everyone.
I assume that they took your model down specifically because it was displaying the logo which can be seen as trademark infringement.
This one probably does not have too much longer. And it is the only other Porsche logo when you search Porsche.
What will happen when Disney or Nintendo finally start to crack down? It will be an absolute S*** show. Considering that the number one thing on trending is Mickey Mouse and there are entire profiles that only do marvel or star wars things.
My guess is someone reported it. That’s all it takes. They reported yours and no one else. Could be one that already had one up and didn’t want the competition. BL just looks at the report, not all the others.
I’m so agree with the taking down by Porsche request even though I would think they would appreciate the visibility. They do sell their key chains for $50. Good for them but seriously they worry about me? Even that is okay. My bigger issue was BL taking points away.
You should read Section 230 rules for online platform hosts and you’ll understand why bambu and many other companies react this same exact way. They only have legal protection if they are actually, provably, ignorant of what the user does, and only responsible to take action if alerted. Thus, ignorance of rulebreaking is actually a revenue-generating feature.
To play devils advocate, most users would never see the issue in what they are doing. For example, there are hundreds of models with a Ford logo on them, they are not getting taken down. No one reports them because it looks innocent. I assume there is someone from porche out there protecting their brand image, just a theory. By posting a model like that you are commiting intellectual property theft. Most people just dont care.
They will never get their turn until someone decides it is. That will not come anytime soon.
That’s a US law. I’m too lazy to look up the WHOIS, so I’m not sure where Makerworld is legally based, but it could very well be outside the US, and Porsche is German. So, chances are US laws don’t apply here. That said, I’m confident Germany has similar copyright laws, and the same likely goes for wherever Makerworld is based.
Is it stated somewhere I missed that he actually made points off of that design? If yes then I guess it could be argued that any gains off of it could be subject to seizure/take backs, but if none were made then maybe it could be argued that the points loss was arbitrarily punitive. But I am not knowledgable of argumentive law in any way.

They are required to follow US law (for at least users in America) since the site is operating in the United States.
Logos are a difficult thing because they are directly protected by trademark law. The fun thing about trademark law is that it can be enforced worldwide.
@CABix I would like to see the message that they sent you when the model was taken down. Help us determine what rule you actually broke.
If the model is removed for breaking the rules then they set everything back to how it was before the model was uploaded, which obviously means you would lose those points, because nothing else would make sense, if you steal someones car and the police catch you, do they let you keep part of the car?
Like, its pretty logical to assume that your ill gotten gains are removed
OK. But are they removing points related ONLy to the design taken down, or are they removing ALL points earned since the design was posted, regardless of what design earned them?
Really not a lot to see or do about this guys. It’s MW discretion to remove anything they want and their requirement to remove anything that violates a copyright.
Not saying don’t discuss it, but don’t discuss looking for a solution. Won’t matter. This has been an issue for years now.
Either don’t do anything with a copyrighted image. Do it with the understanding it could be taken down and it won’t be fair (never is), or just don’t care.
There will ALWAYS be another using it. Pokemon, Star Wars, Car Manufacturers, Logos, it’s all there. Some of it is Fan Art, which is ok. Some use image for image copying.
If it’s taken down you’ll lose any points it earned. Full stop. You need to be prepared for that. You can appeal and they MIGHT do a “one time show of good faith” and give them back, or they may just tell you to pound sand.
I know it isn’t fair, but their playground their rules. If the actual owner pushed then they’ll go scorched earth (looking at you Lego). Otherwise it may just be the one that’s pointed out. There they will put blinders on and get yours. Just be ready and accept the way it is or go. They won’t change it.
Good thoughts. I will say for me I don’t consider it unfair for the points to be pulled for the pulled, infringing design. Frustrating but not unfair and if it happens after several months and a large point accumulation it probably hurts really bad.
For me there was some ambiguity in the discussion that I was trying to understand, and I think I do now.
I will have to look. Somewhere I saw the email that came for Porsche. I really am not losing any sleep on it. It was a fun project. I also honestly don’t that much about the points they award. I fully understand the copyright as well as patent law as I was head of product development for Molex. Now retired. All fun stuff.
As mentioned I did email her at Porsche but she is honestly just doing her job.
