Volumetric speed for 3rd party filaments

I just got the P1s combo today. This is my first high speed printer, however, i have been printing for 10 years and have built 3 or 4 of my own machines from the ground up, all non high speed though.

So i have a TON of 3rd party filament such as esun, hatchbox, etc etc. I noticed that the bambu pla profile is set to 22mm3 and that generic pla is set to about 12mm3. How do i find the most efficient volumetric speed for a given filament?

Open preferences in studio, activate developer mode. (Far down).
Under prepare tab, there should be “calibration” at the far top of the window.
If your using ams, sync your filaments from the machine, click on Minus untill there is only one filament left, then choose the one you want to calibrate from the drop down menu.
Next, open calibrations, look through the options, one must be “max flowrate”.
Set your parameters for the test.

The slicer will generate a spiral form. Watch while printing, if the layers start to deform, stop the print.
Measure the hight, look under preview in your slicer, too right, choose “Flow”.
Go ti the measured hight of failure, maybe 2-3 layers before that, then scroll on the bottom slider, it will tell you the flow rate at this layer.
Set this value in your filamen under max flow (mmÂł/sec)

Repeat for every filament.
Should give you faster printing times with same structural integrity.

ok, i activated the develop mode, but under the calibration tab, nothing has changed, its still just flow dynamics and flow rate. There is no max flow rate

thank you. I was able to test my filament and it never deformed up to 20mm^3. But to keep things safe, ill keep it at 20mm3 rather than increasing it.

When I tested with stock 0.4 nozzle, all PLA filaments I tried had no problem with 20 or 22 mmÂł/s, even recycled one.
Same for most PETG except for one or two.

With the E3D Obxidian, foreign PLA also managed 40mmÂł/s throughout.
With PETG, many had problems going much above 20. The problem was mainly at the seam, not within walls. BambuLab PETG HF behaved best, closely followed by Sunlu matte High Speed PETG.

So looking at stock nozzles, I have the feeling like BambuLab is overly conservative on the generic presets, maybe to be on the safe side, but mostly without need.
I also tested layer adhesion and at higher flow, all filaments including BambuLab’s loose some strength from 10 to 20 mm³/s, i think roundabout 20-30%. So for maximum strength, it makes sense to limit flow. But all filaments i have tested print just fine at 20.

with the Obxidian, layer adhesion stayed constant no matter the print speed. I don’t make use of higher flow very often, so I probably wouldn’t spend the money today. But it comes in handy for big models.
Does BambuLab offer a high flow nozzle for the P2S? If it is cheaper than the Obxidian, you might consider it.

yeah, thats what it seems to be for me as well. strength is excellent at 20mm3 and quality is excellent.

I will test esun and filacube from texas today : )
