Vortek upgrade kit for H2D pricing

What did you do? My post just got deleted for no explanation.

Anyway, I’m still upset about the pricing of the upgrade kit. I expected it would make the H2D+kit more expensive than the H2C. But I think it’s not fair to make it that expensive. While it’s cheaper to upgrade from H2S. It’s good for H2S’ owners though.

This forum is very interesting. My previous topic’s title got changed by someone without notice. Fine, it’s changed for the better way.

Now, the whole topic got deleted without notice like it’s never existed.

This is rude.

If someone said something violating the rules then just delete that particular post with an explanation. Don’t just erasure it without track.

If you look at the hardware involved, it’s a fair price.
Is the upgrade expensive? Yes it is.

BL could also just launched the H2C and leave the upgrade path out.

Now people can choose to upgrade.

I personally prefer that way so I would surely waited a few more weeks to check the H2C. I bought H2D during Black Friday. Yeah, stupid me.

As a customer—even if you knew the H2C was coming—the price still leaves you feeling a bit cheated.

While I’m ruling it out, a voucher for all H2D buyers to smooth over the understandable frustration would be a solution that wouldn’t hurt Bambu either.

Personally, I’d take half the upgrade kit price to order a second H2D. So Bambu wouldn’t really lose anything. On the contrary, the H2D, which is likely to sit on the shelf now due to the hype surrounding the H2C, would at least be sold again (to me), and I wouldn’t feel so ripped off. Again, I also knew the H2C was coming, but the fact that the price is more or less identical to the H2D might have delayed my purchase.

Nevertheless, I’m happy with my H2D. A response from Bambu would be nice, though, as customer retention is a tricky thing.

If they did a decent deal for early h2d adopters, I would buy an upgrade kit for my laser edition.

Upgrade price is high but taking in to consideration how much components need to be replaced I think it is fair. All the removed components still have some value, they can be re sold to recoup some money.
I don’t think anyone will want to re transition to D or S after transitioning to C.

Yeah, I still think my H2D’s dual nozzle system is good. It’s just hurt when thinking about the price.

Yeah, but I was thinking they can do better design to minimise parts that need to be replaced. I know it’s easy to say.

I really don’t mind to send all the replaced parts back to BL. At least they can use these parts for repair or refurbishing printers. And then make the upgrade kit a bit cheaper.

To rephrase from the previous thread,

Compared to Prusa who has been doing similarly swap+add upgrade kits for a while, it’s pretty standard. Disheartening, sure, but not out of the ordinary. The pricing is already heavily discounted vs. combined spare parts cost, but an official parts trade in program can help.

For what it is worth, the H2D has been out for 8 months now, it can be argued that especially for heavy users whom already have a few thousand hours on it, the value of 8 months of head start vs. waiting for H2C easily offsets the extra $400 cost.

Sucks for those that bought one right before H2C tease /or barely used theirs though, but that’s very normal.

The world is not fair. Are you upset about this?

IMO there were a bunch of dum-dums who for real expected the kit to be around $400-500, but that’s clearly not the case.
I honestly don’t even know why Bambu opened their mouth about the upgrade path from H2D to C, as the upgrade is so intensive, that you will be pretty much stripping apart the whole printer.
And no, of course it’s not worth upgrading it. You may just sell your printer and then add a bit more and get an H2C if you desire it so much.

Agreed and that’s the decision I ended up making, the additional hardware the ultimate combo offers most of which bar another AMS HT is useful ends up with me paying Bambu around £300 over the cost of the Vortek upgrade kit.

Factory fresh 2C with a warranty they can’t argue I broke during an error upgrading and 2000 hours less print time on it for an extra £300.

Still a little miffed they rolled out the H series the way they have, if I had known Vortek was coming back in March when I ordered my 2D then I would have sat on my hands until now.

I think BL offered the upgrade kit because the 2C was the machine they wanted to launch with - the H series is designed to accommodate Vortek even down to the chamber heater/filter moulding having a profile to fit the rack.

That said the 2S upgrade makes no sense as Vortek and 2S were announced on the same day. They would have saved the grief around the 2D/2S upgrade path price points too.

Isn’t the H2S upgrade kit $100 more than the H2D upgrade kit?

Probably, but saying it is cheaper to upgrade from H2S is a better narative

Yeah, the kit is more expensive. But H2S is way cheaper than H2D. H2S price + vortek kit price < H2C price. I don’t need to narrative any thing, simple math.

Got it, I wasn’t looking at it that way. Once the machine is purchased and in my home I sort of wash the acquisition cost away. Still happy I bought my H2D when I did.

Prusa Indx is better system:

  • Cheaper
  • Little smaller build plate, Core L is coming!!!
  • Faster

(yes i am :triumph: :sob: owner H2D :poop: upgrade pricing…)

With the flip side that you have to replace the XY timing belt in addition to the other upgrades, which is a PITA

It all depends on your perspective and use case. H2C is a better system for me (is what you should have said in your statement):

  • Fully enclosed and actively heated chamber
  • 350c hot end for engineering materials
  • Automatic filament loading (AMS), no manual loading of PTFE tubes by hand (that will get old real quick)
  • Tungsten nozzle available for GF/CF printing
  • Up to 7 materials without flushing and up to 24 materials with flushing
  • Fully built OEM system from a reliable manufacturer (XL reliability anyone?), not a printer from one and upgrade kit from another company (who is even doing the support when you have an issue?)

I can keep going, but these are the main ones for me.

I see on some replies that the $699 for the core one (not the L) will probably not hold based on someone who talked to bondtech. Its also unclear what you get it looks like you still have to add 8 of these new spools at 35 euro each, new cover and other parts. I would not be shocked if the indx update will cost more than the h2d->h2c upgrade. Its guessing at best as a relative newbie like me all feels that the h2c now is better bet to get stable results for next year or more and that even if i now put at least 3k euro into the h2c i should understand that in 2 or 3 years the 3d printer world will be different again and i either keep using what i have or pay the price to play.
