I was printing a pencil case I designed in ABS on my P2s , using the bamboo engineering plate and liquid glue, bed adhesion was great, but there was tons of warping in the X/Y axis, I knew tall thin walls were prone to warping, but is there anything I can do?
Was the wall that warped facing the right side of the machine? I have seen the that the air coming from the air vent on the right side over cools the parts leading to warping. i ended up printing a diverter vent that i use when printing high temp materials. it helped limit the warping that was caused by that air flow.
the problem is the shrink rate of ABS is higher than many other materials. AND it prints at a higher temperature. So when it cools down to chamber temperature it shrinks more. a few hints.
Slow down the print. This allow you to print at a lower temperature.
put some deverter on the fan to not cool part of the part, and not others.
raise the chamber temperature. Maybe put a large cardboard box over the entire printer. be careful not to raise the electronics too high. This can be a problem.
it all depends on how much you print this type of material, where you live, and what direction the wind blows.
The wall that warped was facing the back of the machine, but I will try your advice because I could certainly see the air still hitting that side of the part, thanks for the help
I’m also a new user, and I experienced similar issues. From what I understand, our P2S printers are operating at the very edge of their limits when it comes to ABS printing. The chamber temperature is neither high enough nor evenly distributed.
My recommendation is to consider using an additional heater or preheating the chamber before starting the print. Even during the first 10 minutes, the chamber temperature still remains far below the required level.
From what I’ve seen so far, the minimum chamber temperature for ABS printing should be around 60°C or higher, but in my opinion even that is barely sufficient. So far, I’ve only managed to get acceptable ABS prints when the chamber temperature was around 65°C and the build plate was set to 100°C.
Otherwise, printing ABS on the P2S in its stock configuration is almost impossible.
