I’m curious, What about models that are clearly IP of let’s say marvel or pokemon or star wars, How do they have rights to say you can’t use the IP unless you pay them via patreon or somthing like that, when they aren’t suppose to be using the ip themselves for sales of subscriptions. Just curious on how that works.
It depends on your country and local laws, you should research this thoroughly and ideally consult a lawyer.
If you choose not to do that, the safest bet is not to sell anything using the IP of another.
More about curiousity than anthing else. I generally design all my own stuff. I was always just curious about how they get away with that.
I have yet to design anything for the 3d Printer, but I’ve done several designs for my laser cutter and the amount of work a lot of this stuff takes is pretty high, I agree with OP.
The OP asked a question rather than making a point that could be agreed with.
The question amounts to “can models from MakerWorld be sold for profit”.
The answer is “yes, if and only if the designer has clearly stated that commercial use of their work is allowed and all other terms are adhered to”.
The consequences of not following the license is court, fines and worse deletion the country. Criminal records are rarely a good thing.
Those talking about morality are saying “yes, steal the work of others and when you get caught your regret taking the advice of someone talking about morality when laws were far more strict about your future freedoms and burdens”. They will also not share your punishment.
Hi, this topic looks interesting, and I am curious to learn more about!
(Especially) as a Muslim individual from a region that does not have specific legislation that directly addresses Creative Commons licenses nor any tailored laws to Creative Commons, however/whereas, I still see it Haram-forbidden and illegal, and dont use it for commercial purposes!
I am literally from (Kurdistan Region) in Iraq, where people here are almost completely unaware about CC licenses excluding copyright, and in fact very very few people knows 3d printing and printers, and most of those who knows it-up to 99% of them do not own any 3d printer-no legal action is taken at all, if they wanted to go against CC licenses regulation, (simply they dont KNOW & if they know they dont CARE) since CC licenses are not explicitly regulated in Iraq.
Despite all of that, I am still eager to know if it would be possible for someone from a 3rd world country to (have the right to) use online objects in their physical format for commercial purposes by any chance or case?
No
Neither religion nor country makes a crime legal.
Not all CC licenses disallow commercial use, only the ones with “NC” in them.
For NC models you can always ask the creator for permission and they can choose to give you rights to use the model commercially. If you were just selling them locally in person and not online, at least some, perhaps even many, creators would not care and would grant you permission if you ask.
so you would pay 1000$ or more just to meaby try and sue a guy ? what if he is from another country ? how much would that cost to sue them ? I get your point dont get me wrong… but i dont think the price it would cost would be worth it
Ofc, Islam does not let you to take someone’s right or anything that does not belong to you, this is called “Haram” if you take it!
Well, unless the owner gives you permission for it!
You should introduce yourself here Pablo I’m sure people would be interested in learning about you and your 3d printing experiences in Kurdistan.
I totally agree! Before printing their models, maybe they could add the creators’ names on their under models. What do you think?
How does or had to mention ur religions has to be important?!
