So I have watched videos and tried researching. What have people determined to be the best chamber heater for the X1C. One that actually works? I do like printing ABS and have it vented so there can be a slight draw to the area where the filter is.

I’ve been eyeballing BIQU Panda Breath Smart Air Filtration and Heating System with Precise – Biqu Equipment. I think it’s for sale now, but I’ve only ever seen it show as “sold out”. There’s very little information about it, so we’ll have to see if it’s as good as they say.

I’ve printed large items like birdhouses and such on my P1S with ABS and ASA. I have a gasket around the top of my riser and some TPU gaskets at the doors. Never have had a warp or issue. Now maybe it’s colder where you are, but for ABS I’m not convinced a heater is necessary.
for the other tech filaments I’d say sure. But ABS prints just fine, in MY onion.
The heater I use is on Layerzerodesign.com. it works great for me .
For the Wi-Fi option and be able to handle the higher materials its $255, just seems like a lot.
I think my issue is I added a ventilation setup for ABS printing, and it think, even though the fan is pulling very little it creates a slight draft at the filter area, and it seems to cause some top layer issues near that.
Are you referring to a Bento Box or something different? I realize all situations are different so don’t think I’m trying to tell you how/what to do.
I have an 80mm fan in my Bento and I haven’t noticed any issues. To be very fair, I haven’t printed large ABS models recently though. With it running and the top/front closed I’m getting up to around 55c when printing, and allowing a heat soak of about 10-15min. I have printed ABS, ASA, PC and a little PA6 in the higher temp filaments. Dry them very well and you should be ok. Just remember to leave it closed until finished and let it cool inside the printer. Smaller prints can be yanked quicker, but I prefer to let larger ones cool a bit. Not long, but a little while.
That’s what’s worked for ME. Try and see what’s happening for you and go from there.
I have a riser for my ams on my printer. Instead of setting it right on top I have strong velcro that holds it on. Creates a better seal, although not air tight, it does help. I have purchased thin foam gasket material to put where the plate sits when closed on the riser. This helps as well to hold some heat in. If you purchase velcro make sure you get some that withstands heat and has good adhesive.
Where I work we use it, so I just yoinked some from here. It’s the kind that holds Rockford Amplified Sub boxes down onto carpet. Works very well for EVERYTHING. lol.

So, I do have the Bento Box but I have also setup a ventilation setup that draws through the original filter and pulls air to outside the house. Now that fan for it is set every low but it seems sometimes the area closer to that has issues and other times it seems ok.
I found that the box becomes an issue if it’s circulating cooler air.
I don’t know if you have an external switch for the bento, but if so wait a little before starting it up. If I am soaking 10 min then I wait until 2-3 before to turn it on. By then the chamber temp should be even and no cooler air moving with in. The exhaust fan should be nil as the aux. This will keep the temp warm and any air moving within just as warm.
i can’t stress enough to leave it closed. Only reason you should open is if the print stops or has failed.
Oh I print ABS/ASA without any issues with my unmodified X1C. If it’s smaller prints I just hit print and let her rip. If it’s a large print, I let it heat soak to 50c+ before starting the print. I just wouldn’t mind an auxiliary heater to give me peace of mind and to help the chamber to come to temperature faster.
My wife keeps the house at 68F 20c so I defently have to use a heater.
I won’t lie to you. I’m a sucker for nearly anything. If the price is right and the thing is of some quality I’ll probably pick one of the Biqu ones up. Then after a few weeks take it out and add it to the pile.
I’ll do it just to do the installation.
