What could go wrong

So the all-knowing Amazon algorithm thought I might be interested in this BTT hardware.

The USB-A port behind the P1 series touchpad is already limited as far as current flow and it’s use has caused various owners of P1’s some trouble already. If you’ve watched the P1 Community Forum any amount of time you’ll see posts about this or that bad thing happening and after some digging it will come up that something was plugged in to the USB port.
So now lets make things worse.
Don’t buy this!!

The more I have thought about the troubles people have had I’m starting to wonder if the AP board itself is what is getting hammered because there was a rash of trouble from the Panda Lux which plugs into the light socket on the AP board, not the USB-A

What could go wrong? Well for starters, if you plug this into the USB power port on the P1, the toolhead will find it quickly!!! :face_savoring_food:

The Bambu USB port is in the worst possible spot. There’s barely room for one cable, and the toolhead will happily smash into it. That’s how ports get ripped off PCBs. Ask me how I know…

The BIQU hub isn’t junk, but it’s a trap. Two ports doesn’t mean two devices. And the LEDs? Pointless, given where the port sits. Worse, with two connectors sticking out, you’ve just doubled the odds of the toolhead wiping it out.

Rule of thumb: trust maybe 5% of what you read here—including me. Use it as a lead, then verify with real sources.

Most folks don’t understand USB. The USB-IF didn’t help by flooding the world with confusing post-3.0 variants. People assume “if it fits, it works.” Wrong.

On Bambu printers it’s simple: the USB port is power only. No data. The spec is 5 VDC × 1.5 A = 7.5 W. That’s the power equation (P=V×I). Some might call it a cousin of Ohm’s law. :joy:

Bottom line: you can’t manage what you can’t see, and you can’t see what you don’t measure. If you’re going to use that port, measure the draw. A simple USB tester should be in every tool bag. I like the Ruideng UM25C (and UM34C clones). Cheap, simple, and accurate. Skip the overcomplicated ones unless you’re deep into USB specs.

Here’s a search if you want to grab one, they have so much utility that I have three of these kicking around the shop. I have the more expensive models that I paid in excess of $65 but unless you’re really into doing PD analysis which the P1 doesn’t have anyway, they are not worth the money and are much harder to use:
