What does this contest even mean?

Makerworlds policing of their own rules is the joke.

I do not think that is the issue. Lets do a little experiment using google translate.

Cathedral Design Competition Cathedrals are some of the most impressive creations in human history, combining architecture, art, and spirituality into monumental works that have stood the test of time. In this competition, we invite you to convey the same sense of grandeur and imagination through your design. Here are some tips for your projects: Architecture: Add classical elements such as tall towers, large arches, rose windows, or massive doors. You can draw inspiration from Gothic, Romanesque, or other styles, or even create your own modern version. Decoration: Cathedrals are known for their details. Consider flying buttresses, carved facades, or decorative sculptures. Small details can make your model stand out. Light and atmosphere: Stained glass and high ceilings create a unique feeling inside a cathedral. You can use glowing threads to create a strong atmosphere. Historical and modern icons: Recreate world-famous cathedrals.

There is no difference to what they are saying

Oh I didn’t mean to imply that they used translation to see what the contest was about, I doubt they even try that hard… I just meant that English wasn’t their first language and they just stuck it in a contest not knowing what it was about. The only reason I thought English wasn’t their first language is this is the model description:

Hello friends and comrades

Welcome to my profile

I will try to create models for you that are current and you might like

If you have any ideas what to do, do not hesitate to write to me and I will look at it with joy

I love it and it is my passion

Good luck with your prints and no clogged nozzles

:open_hands::heart_hands::heart_hands: And most importantly, peace and quiet in your soul f you want to support me, leave a like download or boost  :open_hands::heart_hands::heart_hands:

I see, so the joke is meta… that’s super clever then, in that case forget about…

…definitely Top 3 then.

Checked the profile page, Level 30, popular creator badge (1.7k followers), and offers commercial membership. I think for pulling this kind of /k/rap, MW should actually revoke the commercial license rather than take off a couple of hundred points.

I’ll stop here before I start ranting… it’s just one of those contests again where I decided to put some effort into it. So it’s a bit annoying to see /k/rap like that.

I know for sure that they are not even taking down models that are reported. The consequences do not matter if makerworld is not going to recognize that there are being rules broken.

It is also a culture issue. I feel like half the people on the platform are just little annoying kids. Probably not true but that how it feels.

This is one of the models that is in the battleship contest right now. Since reports are doing nothing, I have resorted to leaving a comment.

But this is how people react…

There are a LOT of them. They all download each others models and comment on each other. You can really see them all on the community tab. If they actually took time to learn modeling, starting at that age, they could go really far. But most of them just put the Rock’s head on other models.

I get what you are saying. My point was really that translation is not an excuse because of how easy it is to get an accurate translation online.

Google translate has been around since 2006.

I am in full support of this. You cant use the ‘unexperienced’ excuse when you are in that situation.

100% agree, there’s no real excuse. They’re in the wrong.

Yeah, unfortunately it happens in oh-so-many contests. The frustrating thing really isn’t the models though… it’s the fact that

Looks hardly like a cathedral to me…

…and there is way worse than that in the “Cathedral” contest, so it’s not just a thing for battleships. If you could at least report them and they’d get taken down… it’d still be just annoying… BUT his way, it’s frustrating. Dunno what you entered into the battleship contest but this is my entry for the cathedral contest and you can imagine how I feel about that.

Just out of curiosity, for the people reporting the irrelevant models are you choosing:

Report Model → Not Compliant With Rules → Irrelevant To The Contest Theme

and are you typing a reason? Like for the one above I put “This is a marijuana cigarette, NOT a cathedral”.

I always put descriptions in there even though it should be pretty obvious.

I have gone to the lengths of making chatgpt make a summary of how the model is not compliant with the rules

Yes, the one where you have to click out of the model again and report from the contest page instead of the model page…

Yes, reason and contest name… as they ask for. Some of them even with supporting screenshots. Nothing…

I wonder if the report from the contest page and in the model page do the same thing.

I will put a small description on there, but frankly I do not see it worth it to really write out something substantial.

Yeah, it should be… no question. I think in your case they might sit there with a few and think, “Well, a boat is a boat” even though the contest states Battleship. Like this one…

…clearly not a Cathedral and if they want Gothic than they should call it the Gothic Contest instead. But this requires a lot of imagination to see a rose window.

Anyways, I don’t even bother with these… I only reported the joint and the Star Wars Millennium Falcon… nothing happened… and it’s not the weekend right now.

That’s good question. I normally always do it on the contest page but the ones I just did were from the model page. Lately I’ve reported some non-contest things and I got a “report successful” weeks later. It made me wonder if they gave the person a chance to correct it or if they are that backed up on reports.

The “irrelevant to contest theme” option is only available on the contest page though. Which is doubly annoying because you cannot report from the app… have to open up the laptop first.

I think they are backed up. But also ive gotten ip reports that only take a day or so.

I forget who said it but it is very true.

I’m not sure when they added it but you can actually do it from the model page now. It’s:

Report Model → Not Compliant With Rules → Irrelevant To The Contest Theme

I think it’s different teams as well and you might need a certain “level” on their end to “call it”… if I don’t see anything happening with “irrelevant models” after a couple of days, I usually try one or two “no real picture” print profile reports… I’m not gonna say “immediately” but more often than not, it’s a positive reply the same day within a couple of hours.

But the “no real print picture” is a pretty obvious one that an intern can do. Now, calling it on this model might be a bit tougher… since it is referred to as the “cathedral” as mentioned in the description. However, unless you really wanna stretch the contest theme and invite these kind of submissions you really shouldn’t let this one slide…

…interesting.

Probably when they added this multi-drop-down feature. But I know it wasn’t there before because it took me a while to find it, until somebody here pointed out to me that you have to do it from the contest page.
