What Filament Lightboxes

Hello,

I searched around and I am hoping to print a lightbox however… the filament listed is PLA + Colors.

I am reading Translucent PETG works and there’s rare PLA Translucent… i assume i need to buy some translucent filament and not just regular filament to make these lightboxes work? Thanks in advance.

No, most lightboxes have been designed to use regular PLA. They make the front thin enough that the light still transmits through the plastic.

You use thin layers of coloured material to allow enough light to make the design look great.

If you use transparent material, you won’t be able to see your design as in the best case it is see-through, in the worst case scenario it is obscured.

basically you can use any material. for most of my lightboxes i use regular PLA. 0.8mm for the screen is a good thickness. Depending on the amount of LEDs your put inside, you can go a bit thicker to make it more stable or you can go thinner to use less LEDs. I also recommend to use aluminium foil at the back.
Pay attention, darker colors absorb more light, so they appear darker.

you can take a look at this one, i used regular PLA with cob leds.

While this statement is true, it does not necessarily mean that brighter colors will appear brighter in a lightbox scenario. Brighter filaments reflect more light, which can be challenging in lightbox setups. For instance, bright white filaments can appear quite dark when backlit due to the way light interacts with the material.
