Hi all, first post and very new to the whole 3D Printing world - loving it so far!
I have about 5 or 6 different filaments and they appear in Bambu Studio - I don’t have an AMS Lite. I did a calibration for each filament and saved it. Does ‘Flow Dynamics’ create the K factor and ‘Flow Rate’ populate the flow ratio in the filament screen?
I select the filament I’m going to use, slice and print. I assume this is the filament information used for the print. When I send the print, this has no effect on the information shown on the printer’s screen in the Filament screen - so what is this information?
For some prints I have more than one filament and again, I set them in the model and print (with pauses in the slide at the layers I want). When paused, I manually unload and load. Again, does the printer adjust for the parts that the model ‘tells’ it which filaments are used for which area? Sometimes, when I change the filament mid-print, I EDIT the filament on screen to the ‘new’ one - is this necessary or does the printer know/assume what is being used?
Thanks for reading.
Many thanks for the reply! ![]()
I’m not quite sure I follow the process you describe about changing filament mid-print without pausing though. If I don’t pause the print when do you cut the filament - as there is still 18" or so in the tube to feed through still? I understand the big limitation of pausing in the gcode is it only pauses at layer changes though. For some of the tests I did, I was keeping an eye on the print and when it went to the tower I’d manually pause it and change the filament then. I assume that because the printer 'think’s it’s now using a different filament (even if I didn’t change the filament) that the settings would adjust (temp, speed etc.) automatically?
Thanks for the tip on using eSUN profile for PLA+, I’ll do that next time I add one. What if it’s Silk - use the Generic Silk one? I assume basing it on a Silk profile adjusts things like print speed etc.? Is Print speed simply the volumetric flow? Changing the filament when in the model doesn’t seem to change any values in the model’s ‘Speed’ tab.
Is there a preference as to how to add/create new filaments? It looks like you can select one in the model and then ‘Save as’ and give it a new name - or create from scratch using the Cog and create a new ‘Custom filament’.
Thanks again, although I have no idea how you manually judge and cut at the right time for a new filament to be at the nozzle when you need it! ![]()
If I print in silk, where, for example are the settings you describe - I think they’re in the model and not the filament, yes? For example, I’m in a model now and can see some settings for inner wall and outer wall of 200 & 300mm/s respectively - but I don’t know what is considered a ‘slow’ speed… but assume this is where such speeds are changed?
I got a load of filaments delivered yesterday and had a good play and can get to it now!
Why I use the 'ol beer and a prayer guy timing of course! Easy!
You can slice with gen pla and take a look at the outer wall speeds, then slice with the built in bambu silk profile and poke around you’ll see the speeds have changed.
Also you don’t have to bother - if you have silk anything just slice bambu silk and walk away. The chances (any brand) of silk will fail is minimal I’ve found unless it’s dollar bin rubbish filament.
However I did make a tuned silk profile for testing and have been using that instead. Changing the speeds to what they said here in this article and it does shine a LOT more it’s true. so maybe edit the default silk like I did and use this new lower outer wall speed tuned one.
