In this picture, my object name line has a filament color of black, while the individual elements are white and red. But there are not actually any black elements on the object. If I right click and change the filament color it changes the color of all the elements in the object.
Can you explain what is meant by the overall object filament color versus the individual elements, and why it’s different than the individual elements within the object? I’m surely just not thinking of this correctly.
That’s just the default color for any parts of that object which don’t explicitly specify one otherwise. For example you assign a filament before breaking up the STL object into parts. It would also be the default used for supports/interface/brim/ears for the whole object, for example. As you noticed it can be used to change all sub-parts at once. If none of the the parts for that object are black then I don’t know how the black got assigned in the first place, but that’s part of whatever workflow was used to get to your current result.
BTW with object(s) or part(s) selected in the tree you can change filament by pressing the corresponding number key, eg. 4 for red in your screenshot. Saves a couple mouse clicks and moves.
