What is the stupid that you have done

Like the post says, what is the stupidest thing that you have done?

The other day I was refilling my glue bottle, and there must have been glue on the floor, and when I went to put the top back on, I went to step forward, and my sliders were stuck to the floor, and with the motion, I must have pressed the glue bottle, and it went off over my face, eyelashes and hair.

The wife said I had to go to hospital. Which I did not, and I had to pull my eyelashes apart.

They are not bad this morning but could have been a lot worse. Last year I was cutting cardboard up with a Stanley knife, and you can guess I cut a third of my thumb right through the nail, and the wife said, ‘Go to hospital again,’ which I did not. I put duct tape around it and went on Amazon and ordered some of the butterfly stitches, and you cannot tell it was cut. The grandkid said to me, 'You always say to cut away from you. I said, 'Do what I say, not what I do. It’s funny how they remember stuff like that but not the other stuff you tell them lol.

We have a water filter on the kitchen countertop, and when I open the faucet with a kettle underneath, I often walk away because it takes some time to fill. I’ve already flooded the kitchen three times because of this. I ended up buying a water sensor from Amazon and placing it on the countertop—it’s already saved me many times.

A week ago, I was at a friend’s house and noticed the same sensor on the countertop next to a similar water filter. I looked at him, and without a single word exchanged, he said, “Water sensor. I’ve flooded my kitchen twice already.”

Why don’t you leave the sink drain open so when the kettle overflows, the water just goes down the drain instead of filling and overflowing the sink?

Once, I was using a table saw to rip down a flooring board for some renovation work I was doing. Set the fence 1/4” away from the blade and ran the board. At the very end, when the last 1/2 remained to be cut, I was worried about the board shifting and leaving an uneven cut on the corner, so I leaned down to eyeball things as I completed the cut. The moment I’d separated the 1/4” strip from the rest of the board, the saw spit the piece out like a spear. Hit me in the face, about an inch below my left eye. Had I been in a slightly different position, I’d be blind in that eye now.

I’ve made many dumb mistakes over my lifetime. What does not destroy you makes you stronger.

The good news is, Cyanoacrylate isn’t toxic. In fact, it’s used as a suture material for some kinds of surgery, they actually glue vessels together instead of using thread which can cause clots as it breaks down in your bloodstream.

As long as you didn’t glue an eyelid to an eyeball, even if you got some glue in your eye, it’ll work loose on its own.

Acetone can be used to remove cured CA glue. But obviously, it’s not something you’d put in your eye. Good for when you glue your fingers together, or you glue them to something else.

At least you learnt to do it right in the mate, lol.

But I bet the wife was not happy that it flooded. the floor, though

My eyelashes were stuck together; I had to force them open, which wasn’t a nice feeling.

Got my barber to come and today cut my hair; it is a bit shorter than I normally have it cut. I did say she should pay for the pain I was having when she first tried to do it lol.

But the glue is out, so I can brush my hair now lol.

The kettle is on the countertop, not in the sink, because it’s an electric kettle and the bottom has electrical connections that I don’t want to get wet. The water-filter faucet can be turned away from the sink and positioned over the kettle on the countertop. Once it’s full, I have a problem

Ah. Well that makes more sense then.

If only there was some kind of a machine you could buy, where you could fabricate a “spill tray” to position under the kettle while it’s alongside the sink being filled, that would drain in to the sink if the kettle overflowed.

That’s if you’re any good at CAD or if someone has done it already lol.

I got a mandolin slicer about a year and change back. I was so excited, and I got it on sale. I was too excited to try it out and the effortlessness it took to slice the tip of my finger off was just. That blade was sharp.

That was probably the most expensive kitchen gadget I’ve ever bought when you consider the medical cost.

Here. Not all that pretty, but what do you want for a 5 minute effort?

Just think what you can do with more. I am too old to learn it. I was trying to get my grandson to learn CAD, and then he could teach me. I even asked if he learnt CAD. I would buy him a 3D printer. Too busy on games to learn it, but he has just turned 16, so you never know.

printing now, but what doI do with the water sensor ? !

Floor of your basement, near the hot water tank/boiler, or where the water comes in to the house (there’d be a regulator there that can leak), or if you have a sump, about halfway down inside the hole. If they’re Zigbee sensors and you have a hub, you can get alerts on your phone if a sensor goes off.

Or at least, that’s what I do with my sensors.

I noticed I did something stupid and I tried to ignore it, but the guilt got the better of me. Here’s another version with a small modification so it can print flat on the build plate.
