What the Heck Happened?

Everything was fine until 5 hour through the print this happened, it has never happened before.

There are multiple colors in it, so is this just the filament not going down the chute so i builds up, or is it clogged? I moved the nozzle over, put the temperature at 220 C and the filament started curling, but then after 2 minutes it came out smooth. And my prints at the top layers are really stringy, and you can really see the print lines.

Looks to me like the chute was overfilled.

Looks like, for whatever reason, one of the poops got stuck and didn’t go out the chute. This caused subsequent poops to pile up.

After you clear our the chute, confirm all the pieces are there so that after a poop is made and the head hits the poop release lever, pieces going down and out as they should.

If you print and install one of these, it will be less likely.

It can happen when the pop doesn’t fall down successfully.

This can be one end getting stuck on the lip at the top or the exit gets blocked, even slightly, causing subsequent poop to build up. When they get to the top or already were if it was hook, they can melt into each other causing this mess.

Ok, that makes sense. Should I check to make sure that my nozzle isn’t clogged because it was trying to empty filament but because of the pile it couldn’t go out?

Fire off a small print and you should be able to confirm if all is good.

When I print on my X1C where there is a lot of filament swap, there is sometimes a piece that remains in the chute but is almost always pushed out by the next poop, so don’t panic if you see one in there and only if it starts to pile up.

And if the poop does look like it might be piling up, I I take a small flexible USB cable and go in from the back of the printer. With a small tap on the pile, it all exits the chute. I only needed to do this twice in a few hundred hours of printing.

That’s a huge party pooper

Sorry I just saw this. But I tried doing a small print, my printer was getting rid of old filament, and now it won’t pull anything out, and nothing’s there. I’ve checked inside the AMS, and I’ve replaced PTEF tubes. I’m just really confused.
