Seems like there should be enough space to do that, but the slicer is preventing me from moving it any further back or to the left.
Might be bug? Try slicing and then going back to the prepare tab, it’ll let you move it fully into the corner. At least it does for me.
After some futzing around, I found it did allow me to move it to the front (still not all the way), and then all the way to the left, so I’m running with that.
It all barely fits on the same plate.

Before I slice, this is as far as it’ll go into the corner.
After slicing, it changes the cube into the actual tower shape. Which is funny that I never noticed that before.
But now I can drag it fully into the corner.
I’m guessing it doesn’t actually know what the size of the prime tower will need to be until it’s sliced. At that point you can reposition it fully into the corner.
Maybe there’s also some way to shrink the footprint of the prime tower? It seems far larger than it needs to be just for priming. The way it is, it’s seriously cutting into my buildable area. Nobody seems to mention that when they discuss the H2D’s buildable area, but as is it’s yet another significant reduction, as this example illustrates.
I haven’t tried recently but not long ago the only way to reduce the prime tower footprint is to reduce the number of colors. It at least was a set area per color.
We used to be able to control the volume of filament primed into the tower which would also let you adjust the tower size. During the recent “gotta mark photos” fire drill, this got driven home hard because I have a number of multicolor lightbox lenses that made the prime towers huge and impossible to locate anywhere on the build plate. During “verification” they all got rejected for conflicts. I had to go through all my models and just disable the prime towers thanks to the changes in how they work and the removal of our control over how they are formatted.
You can play with purge saving and the primer tower settings and get it pretty small depending on how many colors.
Interesting. I haven’t tried outright removing the prime tower. So, without the prime towers, what does it do? Prime into an infill region or something?
My main reason for wanting to keep it is that AFAIK it’s required for the clogging detection to work.
Right on both counts. It used to be a simple square or rectangle with a brim. Now it has that funky shape probably to give it an even bigger footprint to resist all the falling over users were seeing.
And it may need to slice to know how many colors you are using before it blows it up to final size.
Without control over prime towers now they are absolutely worthless for me. They got simplified and new user proofed into being worse than useless.
Two different functions. The purge happens at filament change and is the waste where you see the colors change from old to new.
The prime tower is to get the extruder up to operating conditions and isn’t really meant to purge one filament to the next. It’s so the extruder and filament are running and turns it into being just like a move from one part of the print to another. Without a prime tower the nozzle moves directly to the model with possibly non-equilibrium pressure and temperature and could drag any bits into the model (if they would have been removed in the prime tower).
Where prime towers really shone for me initially was in knocking off any bits hanging on the extruder nozzle before moving over the model. I don’t see as much of that (not totally gone though) since I started drying my filament better.
I’m on an X1C and don’t have the clog detection AFAIK but if that’s where the clog detection happens, it’s unfortunate but you may lose that? I don’t know. All I know is for me prime towers went from useful and a routine part of my prints to now I don’t use them at all. Maybe if something special comes up but for now I simply cannot use them. They break my prints.
It might be reserving the space in case it decides the prime tower needs a brim. Maybe by changing brim from auto to 0 it won’t need to. Just a thought as I haven’t tried it out yet.
Yup. Unfortunately it’s a newer feature only available on the A1, P2S, and H2D. Not sure about the other H series printers, as the wiki only mentions the H2D:
Anyhow, I live in mortal fear of clumping, as it preceeds the Blob of Death, the destroyer of worlds, so I’ll make whatever sacrifice needed to keep it enabled.

You should still be able to remove the ribs from the tower. From the top of my head some of the top toggles in the prime tower section.
After doing that, you should be able to increase or decrease the X-length, resulting in the Y-length to change in the opposite direction.
This might help fitting it better to the build plate.

Where exactly does it do the probing and clumping detection so that I can give it the space it needs, or at least try to find the space it needs to do that?

Without knowing where the “probe area of clumping detection” is, I have no idea on where to move the model to get far enough away from it.
Afaik that is a region at the rear of the build plate.
To be honest, I never used it, or in other words, I am not aware of ever using it.
So moving your model towards the front should clear it.
