Where's our Award Season?

I know it’s kind of a “me too” type request, but I hope we get some sort of award system at some point. I mean, like yearly awards for top designers, models, and such.

Our own Oscars, as it were. The Bamcars, The Oscabus? The BOasmcbaurs?

I know printables did this, and I think others might too, but I don’t care. This is the community I’m a part of, and I want to do fun stuff like that too.

We have contest, which are neat enough. But it’s things like, I made a series of clocks way before the clock contest. So I can’t really take part in it with my models.

So, a site wide award like that could be great. It’d give everything and everyone a chance to be a part of it all.

what kind of rewards could be given? I’d honestly keep individual awards lowish, so the prize pool could be spread out over a greater selection of entries.

Could just be a system where you vote/nominate on an individual object’s page, or on a designer’s page.

Could have like Top Designers, and pick the 3 top ones. Could have an up and comer category, where we get a Top 3 designers under 200 makes, or under 200 followers, or something. I don’t know. Then you know, awards in each category of model type and maybe a couple of special ones to cover some fringe areas, like more novel use of filament or something. Something where people do crazy things that may not be practical, but are still cool and show how we can push the boundaries.

Prizes for the top places could be like just 120 dollar gift card (let’s be honest, any of the top 3 designers, they probably don’t need more prize money!). Then could filter it down to like 40 dollar gift cards for the lower categories, or a roll of filament for runner ups. Maybe even ditch prizes all together. Overall it should be about the awards, and not the rewards.

As an end of year blow out that could be cool, and fun for everyone.

Hey if they wanted to send out a few of the new flagships I wouldn’t mind one of those :wink: I definitely agree that an awards ceremony would be awesome! Perhaps for the small creator awards put the follower count a bit higher, maybe 500. I’m small enough that MakerWorld refuses to give me a verification badge (:roll_eyes:) and I’ve got ~300.

I really like this idea - the featured tags and contests are great ways to highlight some models but there are some many out there flying under the radar.

It could be fun to highlight some tangential areas as well such as innovative/helpful remixes, interesting post-processing methods or even areas discussed in this forum like photography and assembly instructions.

Agreed that highlighting more models would be best even if that makes the prizes smaller.

This is a great idea! Speaking of recognition, I also like to see a ‘New Designers’ section, where users that recently uploaded their first model get a bit of the spotlight.
