Which version of Bambu studio is the most stable and suitable for A1?

I’m asking seriously. I haven’t updated it for a long time, because every time new software was released, people wrote about problems…

Well, in all seriousness, the version you have is only as stable as the underlying system it is executing on. I’m not trying to be flippant but for example, let’s say you have a graphics driver update and your video card is at the hairy edge of reliability - as in, if you over clock - and that combination works fine in most circumstances, but then make just one update and now BS becomes unstable. As you mentioned, lots of people are having problems.

In my view, I abandoned BS when they implemented Bambu connect. I’ve been using Orca Slicer exclusively since January 2025 with no issues. In my view, if one wants stability, stay with firmware pre 1.08.04 on the X1 and P1 and 1.03 on the A1. Then do not upgrade past 1.10.1 which was the last release before Bambu went full Darth Vader mode with their Bambu Connect draconian Our way or the Highway policy in January of this year.

You can see from all of the 2.0 and beyond releases, the number of bug reports increased. This seems more so in recent releases that seem to be focused on the H2 and P2 series. Bambu seems like they are rushing to support the newer products and what is suffering is testing stability on the older products. Orca Slicer does not have this issue it seems, at least so far.

Short version: stability problems can be stack issues - GPU driver, firmware, slicer build, or configuration. Treat each layer separately and lock known good versions.

My experience: I stopped using Bambu Studio when Bambu Connect was introduced. I have run Orca Slicer since 01/25 without issues on the same hardware. I am at version 2.3 of Orca and it appears that even the BambuSource.DLL has stabilized as well. I should also for full transparency state that I disable Windows automatic updates on my production machine precisely for the reasons mentioned above. Once I have a stable environment, the only updates I install are ones required to gain access to new features.

If stability is your priority, these combinations have been steady for me(Note I have a P1 but this is a complete list):

  • X1 and P1 firmware: 1.08.04 or earlier
  • A1 firmware: 1.03 or earlier
  • Bambu Studio: 1.10.1 or earlier if you want a pre-Bambu Connect build
  • Disable auto updates once you are on a stable set

On recent BS 2.x releases, bug reports appear to spike, with fixes skewing toward H2 and P2. Older platforms seem to see more regressions.

Some practical steps I use to isolate instability - YMMV:

  1. Lock your GPU driver to a known good version and disable auto updates.
  2. Test with a clean Bambu Studio 1.10.1 portable or switch to Orca Slicer for comparison.
  3. Roll printer firmware back to the versions above.
  4. Reset your slicer profile and test a stock profile before re-importing custom settings.

I wouldn’t categorize ANY of bambu studio releases as worthy of “LTS” sort of stability. You must decide if you want to use bambustudio or other tools, as it’s not very easy to flip between them. The older versions of bambu studio (1.10.x) are functionally identical to older versions of orcaslicer. All the new junk in bambustudio is mostly in service of the dual-nozzle platform, more cloud hooks, and integrations with 3 SKUs of AMS.

I personally uninstalled BS completely, the out of date version was too much trouble to use alongside current revs of orcaslicer/prusaslicer.
