Before every color change my X1C/AMS purges the old color down the poop chute. In this case, is a purge tower required? Bambu Studio defaults to a purge tower every time. Why is that?

I would add, if your colour changes are per layer, you can turn it off.
If they are within a layer (2 or more in each layer) you should leave it on.
