Why could this deformation around curved parts might be happening?


Could this be a filament issue or and issue with with nozzle/extrusion?

Im not positive what you mean by deformation. I do know this part would benefit greatly by lowering layer height or turning on variable layer height. The printer cant round off the edges of single layers, so the thicker the layer, the more blocky they are.

There are these tiny holes and very small deformations.


This looks like a much better print than mine for example it still has some of the same issues but to a much lesser degree.

You can try “filter out tiny gaps”. I believe this replaces gap infill for bambu slicer.

Also, as always, make sure its dry and set the correct flow rate.

Im almost positive the other guys print you posted above, has a lower layer height than yours.

Yours is exposing alot of “top layer”

It looks like his flow rate is near perfect, and he still has some tiny gaps.

Thank you very much. Yes those are what I meant. So you can solve those gaps by calibrating flow rate?

Its possible that they could be from extrusion. I just threw out the things I would try. I would first dry it thoroughly, then set flow rate and pa. Then I wiuld try a print. If still bad, try the other things.

If I wanted it as good as possible, I would set layer height to .08 or tyrn on variable layer height(sometimes this causes color gradients in the print)

If they are because of extrusion, does it mean that it is a flow rate issue?
Sorry I’m very new (3 weeks in) and trying to learn what is what.

Yeah.

And if you look at the actual lines, you can see the flow rate is off. Even if it doesnt help the holes, it will still make the part much nicer. Hopefully more people chime in on the holes. We have some very smart and helpful people here.

Yeah I’m sure lowering the layer height will help it a lot (I’m waiting for new filament right now lol) I was just wondering if there might be other issues with the printer that I’m not aware of (I just attempted to do the extruder cleaning so I thought if I did something wrong when installing back the dual extruder). I’ll definitely do the calibration also. It is Polymaker Panchroma Matte PLA so I’ve been using it with the configuration they have in their wiki.

In case you didn’t know, this might help save some filament and verify the recommended changes without having print another full model.

Before printing another full model, you can push the majority of the model down under the build plate so only a portion of the top of left. Assuming no support or related weirdness, this would allow you test how the top of the model will print without having the print the full model.

I personally like the “layered look” and the holes don’t bother me. :blush:

Here’s a couple of other thinking out loud things that occurred when reading your question.

  • Try Bambu Lab’s filament. Pre-calibrated and as long as you keep them dry, results are typically excellent.

  • Make sure you are running the latest Bambu Lab’s slicer. Not sure when they added the scarf joints/seam option (Seam settings | Bambu Lab Wiki), but there are additional settings there can help.
