Why does my AMS HT only lower humidity to 20%

But my AMS 2 pro goes down to Luke 4%…what results are you guys getting?

Well how dry do you want it?
I think mind have been lower than 20 but I wouldn’t swear to it.

Yeah you are probably right I’m just wondering why my normal ams gets it down to like 5% and so does my Amazon generic brand (50c max) but the ams ht struggles to go below 20%

Betting it’s the hygrometer, mine is the same way. My Pro’s get down to 10 or less. For me, the hygrometer is just a guide or barometer as to what’s going on.

Technically you should weigh the filament to get an accurate measurement. Admittingly, I have never weighed my filament. I just set my drier to X hours at the recommended temp and when the hygrometer stops dropping I call it good. Been working just fine for me since I’m not shooting for the perfect print or selling them.

It’s simply because AMS HT is outright TERRIBLE at air sealing.

And you’re lucky that yours can get down to 20%. Most of us would need to add tons of desiccants to suppress it under 20%. For like a week or so.

I use my AMS HT to recharge desiccant packets. It has been as low as 4% and will hold it for many days if I let it sit.

So it’s possible they will hold the dry air in. I’m thinking of tearing mine down to see if there’s anything the jumps out causing it to leak so quickly. I use mine strictly for drying, and it would be nice to have it dry my filament and keep it dry.

this is straight from bambu’s store for their PETG HF. I raised a support ticket to bambu about my HT and got a similarly pitiful response. my ht has been relegated to a machine that only makes heat and nothing else. has to be BBL’s worst product by far and they wont even address or speak about it. even worse there do appear to be some people that won the lottery with their and they work semi decently

It’s the type of desiccant being used.. The 14% I had to open up yesterday to change an empty, but usually it’s below well below 10% also… It will be down probably Sunday or Monday to normal..

Haven’t touched it in a week. I don’t use desiccant in the HT.

It is.. You answered your own question in what you just said.. And that is the single reason you haven’t seen in l it decrease in a week.. Or lower levels.

Everyone (well mostly, probably) uses some form of desiccant in the regular AMS units. There are holders for the HT also. Once you do that, you will see a very dramatic decrease.. Especially in the HT’s with their small size, and the level of heat they produce.

My suggestion: make it out of something that you print at the highest temp, and then a step above that. Example: I print ABS, so I made mine out of ABS, and have no problems.

Have you verified the reading by putting another hygrometer in there for awhile?

I think you misunderstood my response.

Someone mentioned it has a poor seal. I was demonstrating that it does not given mine has not changed in a week. If it had a poor seal it would have increased, and it does go under 20.

I am one that doesn’t see much sense in desiccant in a dryer. It’s not used as storage so the drying cycles will dry the air. I don’t think we see so much when opening that desiccant provides a real benefit in my use scenario.

It is within 4% of a stand alone. I don’t expect a dead on reading. I’m perfectly content with that margin of error. It’s dry or it’s not. If I’m that concerned I’d rather weigh it.

Where do you live? A very dry area will do that, a UK user for example might see higher humidity increase. It also depends on where your AMSs are located, in a heated room humidity might not increase, in a non heated workshop, it may (mine stabilize around 16/17% in my workshop, AMS, AMS2 or AMS-Ht, my workshop is at 16ºC currently and it’s raining outside).

It’s so common and well known that HT has poor sealing. I personally have 4 HTs, bought from different batches, and they all have humidity climbing up super quick after desiccant swaps. I also help in a print farm & reseller shop, guess what we don’t even bother to use HT anymore because it’s so ■■■■. Managing the extra dessicant swaps is just not worth it for the extra labour.

I’ll help. I live on the east coast. I also live in a basement apartment. Humidity, esp during the winter, is high.

Now PLA isn’t so bad. That reading is with ASA CF inside. The HT I use on the mini currently reads 33% and hasn’t dried anything in over a month but is opened and closed regularly.

Yes, completely misunderstood. I agree with you, completely(at least for my units). But then people have said the same about all the AMS units.

I don’t stress over mine either. They’re fun to watch at bored moments, but as long as my values aren’t rising, I don’t worry either.

I do use mine(inadvertently) as storage simply because I’m away from home so much.. I have bins(tubs) that I use as “actual storage" also..

33% is pretty wet for almost anything other than PLA tbh…

For PETG it’s generally better to be <20%, preferably <15%.

For Nylon, <10% is required.

It’s such a shame that AMS HT is not a good solution for nylon, lol.

I don’t know who you’re trying to convince. I never said 33% is ok. I said that’s what a unit that has been opened and closed regularly for days says and it matches the room humidity. The 16% dried the ASA a week ago and is holding. It hasn’t been used because I keep getting new prints that are more important. I don’t like to use the AMS as storage, I rotate too many spools and we only have 3 & 2 HTs with 80 spools.

The engineering filaments are dried for 24hrs, then stored. PLA is left out as is PETG (mainly because I’m not using that much right now, easier to just dry when used.)

My initial point is that the (or my) HT does hold.

Just being in the AMS for a couple of days works for my pla 47% when its on, no drying no dessicant just a closed lid (not clipped (pla that wouldnt stick 2 days ago)
