Why does my second layer cover more surface than my first layer when slicing?

I’m having issues where the first layer of my prints are having holes in them. It seems like the gaps aren’t getting filled. But when I check how the second layer prints in the slicer, it looks great…

How can I get better surface coverage/gap fill on the first layer??

Thanks in advance!!

Are you using Classic Wall generator or Arachne. Try changing the setting to the other. Arachne should give your nozzle more feed into nooks and crannies.

In addition to @Olias comment, keep in mimd that 1st layer line width is usually slightly larger to give some squish. That is why they are different.

This may be the answer to why it looks like it does in the slicer. Thanks!! Now your answer is making me think that I may need to make my first layer lines slightly larger.

There’s also QualityPrecisionElephant’s foot compensation setting which will shrink the outline of the first layer if enabled, changing the resulting line geometry. On a thin model it may not be needed at all, or could be reduced.

This comment sparked a curiosity and I was able to find the solution. By making the initial layer width thinner, the lines in the slicer covered more of the surface touching the plate.

I can confirm that this worked as I am watching the first layer print as I type this resolution.
