My continual gripe with Makerworld models and other similar sites, why doesn’t anyone give us information on the size of the model. I see something I would like to print but I have no idea what size it is unless there is some implicit info. The only way to find out is to download the file and see it in the slicer.
Makerworld, start requiring dimensional information in the description.
i agree, I think it’s a waste of time to have to open it in the slicer when I’m looking for something really specific and I have to go though like 5 models just to find what I want.
Because the size isn’t always going to mean much, just because something is 200mm wide by 200mm tall it doesn’t really mean much if it happens to be a + symbol only 2mm thick
Also, you can scale it to whatever you want so its mostly moot
Automatic tools are not gonna be able to intelligently dish this info out based on a smattering of parts on a plate. And Im not sure getting out the fabric tape is reasonable ask for the designer/uploader.
Just-In-Time Scaling [aka, in the slicer] has been a huge feature of 3d printing since forever, I dunno if this is needed, but it could be interesting to give a field for designers to input a “intended size” or something.
Wellllllllll, i’m with you in some cases (for example gridfinity), but not all cases would require the creator to post the dimensions of their model (for example a keychain or an articulated lizard).
see, most of the creator here works with softwares that does not have dimensions available while working (lets say their work does not need millimeter accuracy), it’s always an extra effort to click on the object to see it just because the software is built like that, and if its a multi part creator would want to calculate the total length, width and height.
you could do ask the creator if it’s that important or a quicker way is to open the slicer and measure it manually before printing.
i usually don’t post the numbers unless the model is something like a box and i need to clear it for everyone that the box will fit maximum of 123mm x 123mm, anything else is mostly less than 250mm x 250mm just because of the print plate size.
