Why Is My AMS Hub Having So Many Issues?!

I’ve been having a TON of errors with my new AMS Hub. For a while it wouldn’t even load the filament into the extruder from my AMS 2 without giving a “clogged extruder” error. It would put the filament through the Hub, but when it would reach the extruder, it would stop, retract, and attempt to load the filament again. Oddly enough, my normal AMS would do the same thing 3-6 times before it would finally start purging. The one problem is that the purge was so small that the new filament didn’t even start to come out of the nozzle at all. (Foreshadowing)

When the normal AMS would retry a bunch of times, it didn’t give me any errors. I wish I could say the same about the AMS 2. It gave me several errors, including:

“AMS B Filament buffer position signal lost: the cable or position sensor may be malfunctioning.”,

“The filament buffer signal is abnormal; the spring may be stuck, of the filament may be tangled.”,

and, “AMS B (the AMS 2 Pro) slot 4 (the slot I was attempting to use at the time) feed resistance it too high. Please reduce the feed resistance, decrease the rotation resistance of the spool, and avoid having the filament tube too long and excessively bent.”

I also noticed that there has been a flashing red light of the back of the AMS Hub. I looked it up and this generally means there’s an error.

I, like the doofus I am, spent over three hours troubleshooting, but somehow not paying attention to the convenient “New Firmware Available” notification. I thought that it was new firmware for the printer, but it turns out it was new firmware for the AMS hub.

After finally reading the details, I updated the firmware. The good news is, the filament now goes into the extruder first try. The bad news is, it purges at the speed of a turtle, the purge is barely the size of a pea, and worst of all the new color doesn’t come out of the nozzle during the purge. Also, the flashing red light apparently never went away, and there seems to be a rattling sound when the filament is passing through the Hub. I haven’t tested actually printing something, but I’ll try that next.

Does anyone know how I can fix the slow extrusion?

Though it doesn’t actually solve your problem, I believe you can increase the value that your printer purges at filament changes and stuff. Maybe that will help until you can find what the problem actually is?

Have you checked the extruder for a blockage?

Possibly, in the gears, a broken part at the top of the PTFE tube?

I seem to have solved it! I kinda don’t actually know how I fixed the issue, but for some reason after I messed around for a while, it finally started working. Don’t know why these issues came up in the first place, and I don’t know how I solved them, but thanks for the suggestions anyway.

I honestly feel like I checked the extruder and the PTFE tubes too many times… but better safe than sorry!

Yes I was having some of these issues also. I just started using my AMS but I managed to solve the problem.
