Well, coming from a Prusa MMU2, it’s a major improvement. However I think it was either intended to be a closed garden product or they didn’t care if it worked with all the 1kg spools out there. Never mind the investment some of us have in spools. That’s a little disappointing and makes me question their engineering ability and leadership in the company. I have had it a week and am already looking at printing mods for better spool handling. I got away from Prusa because it was more like a project than a printer. So temper your expectations a bit. I have 2 AMS units and 2 days in I designed the AMS Spool Sock for cardboard spools because I have several and didn’t like the hard plastic versions.
I reversed engineered prototypes for an electronics company by the rule of “Form Fit and Function”. It’s got to be the same size, holes in the same places, its got to fit all the use cases out there and it has to function the same and or better.
So I guess I expected more out of Bambu without checking first. So re-spool? Nope. Transform into another product essentially like the Hydra? No. Replace the inner bed parts to accommodate some other spools better. Probably.
I hope they make an AMS with integrated drying/heating and accommodate more spool sizes, maybe even a removable partition for bigger spools.
