WTF did you people do to the coordinate system?

I have a P1S that I started using on a new project, I haven’t printed anything for a few weeks, but now I cannot understand why it’s so damn hard to get anything where you want it to be? The Z coordinate is acting so inconsistent and I’m ready to throw something out in the yard and beat it to death like in the movie Office Space.

I have a part, that is 3mm high. I want to put a cylinder of 7mm
(or whatever height it needs to be to compensate for whatever Z value Bambu changes it to based on whatever reference point it wants to use for that object at the time, yes it’s confusing) on top of it. This cylinder would be 3mm in diameter. I then want to put a cylinder that is 3mm on top of it so the whole part is 13 mm high. This shouldn’t be that difficult, right?

The first 2 cylinders I added work in world coordinates by default, with no option for part coordinates. I copied those 2 cylinders, pasted them under the same part, so I now have 4 cylinders. I changed them to be 2mm, but I cannot figure out what the z value needs to be to set them on top. Those 2 cylinders do NOT have the option for world coordinates, only part coordinates. Why? They are nested under the same parent.

Look at this screenshot, I tried object coordinates, it says 3mm for the Z value, but it also shows that the object extends to the plate, what the ■■■■ is 3mm referring to? the part it’s supposed to sit on is 3mm high, but the part ISN’T sitting on it. Ugh, not while trying to get proof the other cylinders change to part coordinates with no world option, not they don’t show a part coordinate anymore. So let’s just leave it at how nonsensical these z values are, or I’ve just literally gotten dumber in the past few weeks that I can’t understand numbers. If I change the same part to world coordinates it says 5.5 but the part is against the bed and it’s 9.5mm high, so what in god’s name is 5.5mm referring to? I cannot figure out what a z value of 5.5 could possibly refer to. Could you enlighten me on whatever voodoo math this is using? Sometimes when I change a dimension, it looks like it shifts other parts, as if you want it to make the z value relative to the dimension you changed. It’s so confusing and frustrating, I’ve been fighting this for days hoping that I will guess the right number and when I reselect the part it WILL actually say that number. I set the z value to 11 the one time and when I came back it was 11.75. Sometimes when you change something and don’t hit enter first, it screws up the next object you select and either randomly moves it or applies the same value to that way and the one you clicked off. I guess at this point, this is wasting a lot of my time to just become more frustrated. So am I crazy or what the ■■■■ did you people do to this?

In the one screenshot, you can see how some of my cylinders are under the print surface now.. I’m PUTTING the SAME values in for each group that should have the same thing, so how is the Z value constantly getting so screwed up?

Do you have to divide the number you want to change the Z value by 2? If I change the one Z height (not position) from 9.5mm to 11mm, it starts sticking below the bed? Is everything in this program based on center values now and you have to do the math to make sure things end up where you want?

Yes, and it has been this way for a while. Very confusing for a coordinate system. I have worked with many x,y,z machines and they had an origin that was constant.

I’ve also found working in absolute coordinates tricky because the reference point is the exact center of the object… so depending on where that is, you have to adjust directly. Also, Bambu Studio will force any individual object to contact the plate… whereas if you “assemble” them, then you can move each object in the assemble freely off of the plate.

I suggest trying grouping the objects you want sitting one on top of each other, and then you’ll be able to 1) set better Z coordinates directly, or 2) use the “assembly” feature in “face and face assembly” mode:

Step 1: Merge the two objects into an assembly

Step 2: Select the Blue face that you dont want to move

Step 3) Rotate your view so you can see the other face, and click it to make it purple

Step 4: Click “Center Coincidence”

It can definitely be a bit frustrating, but doing it this way does allow you to “build up” multiple parts sequentially.

Thank you, it’s not me being crazy then, I just never needed to do anything that exposed this insanity.

I had seen that previously and forgot about it. That way felt like it was going to be a pain in the rear, but maybe it’s the only way to save my sanity. Thank you for the reminder!!!

Hey look, the part coordinates are magically back… and selected by default, but you can see in my other pics it wasn’t there…. I haven’t closed it or did anything, I just un-minimized it and noticed the part coordinate is now there…. they are probably using AI to write all their code and fired all their testers.

Just to be clear, thats your scale and size, NOT your position… just wanted to make sure you noticed the difference!

Oh wait, is that my other issue? I’m thinking that the resizing has part coordinates? If so, that could explain a lot, it does sometimes get a little confusing when switching back and forth between. I will particularly watch for that. Thank you!!
