WTF happened here?

As the title suggests…wtf happened

here to my print?! This was an ASA print with

HIPS interface layers (ironed). The interface failed spectacular…don’t know why. Did this print some days ago and it worked fine…

I would guess the HIPS got extremely fast wet although i kept it in a drybox.

Whats your opinion guys???

It would be helpful if you posted a 3mf and provided more details. I can’t figure out what your build orientation was, what was already removed from the part, etc.

A picture of your print preview would also be helpful.

Sorry, i hasted because of frustration. I’m not on my pc yet so just a quick explanation. The side you see is facing the plate, the inner section was filled with the support structure. Only the struggled interface is left. I will post the files when i’m back on pc.

Ah, got it.

It would be very helpful to see your print preview at the topmost interface layer. I’m not sure why, but it looks like the HIPS was applied in very narrow strips rather than being a completely smooth, consistent layer between the support and the part.

It also looks like you only have one interface layer turned on; I always use two at minimum, and often three layers.

Sry for the late reply…so here are the files. 2 Things i recognized, first interface Layer is only on one half of the object. Dont know why.
Second is i accidentally sliced it in 0,12 layerhight
Interface layers were set on 2.
The 3MF is to big…coming from a STEP…cant upload it here.

You could try to import the STEP file with a larger angular and distance tolerance.
This greatly reduces the number of facets and therefore the file size, and slicing speed.

Additionally, you can trim off the top in the slicer with the cut command, and delete that part, further reducing file size.

It should still give the same slicing result at the interface.

Is there a reason for that complex inner detail in the enclosure? If you can do away with it that would make this a lot easier.

When you selected the support material for interfacing, the slicer should have given you a message about recommended support settings - did you accept those, or override them?

Am i misunderstanding the issue ? or does it just need a good post processing ? (clean up) as most of it just looks like an interface that has not released

Not sure what you mean with “complex internals”. In this box are 3 slide inś for Wago modules, the rest is supports. And yes i accepted the changed settings for the supports.
I simplified the file in the slicer so i hope it changes not to much.
The weird buildup for the support layer is still in it…dont understand this. The model is absolutly right-angled.

No the supportmaterial interconnected there with the next ASA layer…it won´t let me remove it.
I will try D-Limonen to erase it.

Your weird behavior of the support interface is caused by a weird bottom geometry of the large pocket.

It is not flat as expected, and there even seem to be fillets in between the different angled faces.

Did you design the part yourself, or did you download it somewhere?

I could try to fix the STL, but when you could supply the STEP file, it will be lot easier to fix that geometry.

Weird…i did it myself in Solidworks. Everything is fine there, and as said i printed the part before without issues. Maybe some import error?

I work exclusively in SolidWorks, as long as a surface is planar and is parallel to the build plate I’ve never seen anything like this before.

…you mentioned size issues, are you adjusting the STL/3MF export parameters? Don’t. There’s no need to, the way Studio interprets the geometry it won’t benefit you at all to crank up the resolution.

…and is it just me or is the whole part elevated off the build plate?

It seems to be flat on the Build Plate. but after reorienting it on the same face again the result is correct.

So it seems like a slight misalignement.

Forget my quality issue. I guess that was the rough faceting resolution.

Weird, if you hit F and choose your side shouldn’t it go planar?
I didn’t see that, so if this is the issue THX!
I choose STEP because the accuracy on round surfaces should be better, i dont remember changing something on import…but who knows BS is sometimes a bit own-willed on Linux ^^
