Is it possible to see what the X1 Micro Lidar camera “see’s”? More through curiosity than anything else.

You should definitely ask Bambu support that… but if you find how, share it. We’d love to find out as well.
I’ve never bothered to try, but the X1Plus firmware claims to provide some access to the Lidar images.

That’s quite interesting. I have read about X1Plus, but frankly have been afraid to try it. I read somewhere that it can affect the product warranty?
Using custom firmware on the X1C requires a special “R” (rootable) version of the Bambu 1.6 firmware on the printer, which passes control to the custom firmware on the SDcard. To install that firmware, Bambu requires that you give up any remaining warranty. Bambu provides details here: Third Party Firmware Plan Guideline.
Installation and risks are explained very well in the X1Plus Wiki. If you are interested, I would recommend reading ALL the links in the wiki before making a decision. Also watch the video in which Michael from Teaching Tech installs X1Plus with the developers on a video call.
My one year warranty ran out shortly before X1Plus was publicly released, so that was not a consideration for me. Although Bambu has no obligation to honor warranty claims once you have installed the R firmware, there have been no reports of their refusal to help with actual hardware problems. You might have little more explaining to do, and they will emphasize that they are making an exception in your case, but they apparently do come through.
A boot menu gives you the option to boot into the stock 1.6 firmware, with or without a check for newer Bambu firmware. If you accept the update, the R version will be replaced and you will be back on the current Bambu firmware (warranty is still voided).
To my thinking, X1Plus is more of an interface enhancement than a complete firmware. It relies on closed-source firmware (currently v1.8.0.0) downloaded from Bambu to the SDcard for motor control and other functions.
I’ve been using X1Plus for about six months with zero problems, it just works exactly as expected. I really had no problems with the the stock firmware, but my bed is leveled a bit more precisely, I can operate the display screen from the other side of the house via VNC, the wi-fi driver is supposedly better (I had no issue with original), the ability to SSH into the Linux OS has been interesting, but caution keeps me from poking around too much.
X1Plus is not an essential upgrade, and I can’t say it has improved my prints, but I don’t see myself returning to the stock firmware.

Thank you very much for the detail. In my case, I will stay with the Bambu firmware for now. The X1Plus does sound very interesting. I bought the X1C about 5 months ago. In Europe, we get 2 years warranty. So I think that it is smart that I wait it out.

yep. that’s the wisest thing to do while still under warranty. I’ve got less than a year left from the 2, then I’ll have to decide, based on how either evolves, if I’ll stay with Bambu’s firmware or migrate to X1Plus.
