I’m dealing with a recurring issue on my Bambu Lab X1 Carbon after a power surge / unstable electricity, and I’m hoping to find a solution that doesn’t involve replacing the whole board again.
The Symptoms:
When I turn on the printer, the chamber light turns on.
The screen backlight flickers and turns on, but the display itself remains completely black (no Bambu logo, no text, no image).
I opened the front panel and checked the AP Board LEDs. They behave exactly as described in the Wiki: One LED is solid (Power), the other LED is blinking (Status). So the board seems to be getting power and communicating.
What I’ve tried already:
Full power cycle: Unplugged for 30+ minutes, pressed power button to drain capacitors. No change.
SD Card: Removed the MicroSD card. No change.
Cable re-seating: Reseated the display ribbon cable on both the screen side and the AP Board side. No visible damage to the cable.
Visual inspection: Checked the AP Board for blown capacitors (especially near the USB-C port). Everything looks clean, no burns or swollen components.
Network check: The printer does NOT connect to Wi-Fi / Bambu Handy / Bambu Studio. It’s completely offline, which suggests it’s not booting fully into the OS.
Background:
This exact same thing happened to me about a year ago after a storm. Back then, replacing the AP Board fixed the problem immediately. However, I’m trying to avoid spending $35-40 on a new AP Board again if this might be something else (like a corrupted EMMC or a specific component that can be fixed).
My question to the community:
Has anyone successfully recovered from this specific state (Black screen but good LEDs) without replacing the AP Board? Could this be a corrupted firmware issue on the AP Board that can be re-flashed via SD card or USB? Or is the AP Board just very sensitive to power fluctuations and replacement is the only real fix?

You sound careful enough but just to be sure, the Wifi antenna was completely plugged in right?
If not then I think it’s time for a board. I’d reach out to support and ask about part warranty if it’s not been too long. Every now and then they’ll throw one to you.
Thanks for the suggestion about getting a better surge protector – that is definitely solid advice and I’ve already ordered a high-quality one to prevent future issues.
However, I wanted to clarify the specific circumstances of this failure because it might point to a sensitivity within the AP Board itself.
All three of my devices were connected to the same power strip/surge protector during the event:
2 x Bambu Lab X1 Carbon printers
1 x Bambu Lab PS1
The Outcome:
The PS1 survived without any issues. It powers on and connects normally.
Both X1C printers failed in the exact same way: Black screen (backlight works), AP Board LEDs show normal activity (one solid, one blinking), but no network connection and no image.
Since the PS1 was on the same circuit and is completely fine, it suggests that the surge wasn’t massive enough to destroy everything (which a better protector might have prevented). Instead, it seems the X1C’s AP Board is particularly vulnerable to even minor fluctuations that other Bambu Lab hardware (like the PS1) can easily handle.
That’s why I’m leaning toward the AP Board replacement being a design sensitivity issue rather than just a lack of surge protection.

It’s premature to conclude that there’s a design defect here. It’s also not reasonable to suggest that this was simply a “mild fluctuation” without actual data to back that up.
True, your P1 hasn’t failed yet, but in a place with overall poor quality power it could just be that it’s time hasn’t come yet, or one machine took the majority of the surge (assuming that’s what it was) - not that the P1 is actually better than the X1 in terms of tolerating power supply issues.
Have you contacted your electrical company to have your service checked? Or done any measurements of your own (provided you have the necessary skills)?
Edit: if you’ve replaced the AP board before, post pictures of both sides of it please. Would be interesting to see if there is an obviously blown component.
Power surges and spikes are pretty curious things that don’t necessarily cause failures first hit.
It’s impossible to say what actually happened but there are manufacturing variabilities even between two otherwise identical components. And one device may have taken a static hit the other didn’t, or any number of things.
It could be a good surge suppressor might not even have helped in your case if it was a weak component or maybe you just got unlucky. Where I am, lightning is more of an issue and I’ve had equipment get hit before. Cracked open an IC on a modem and left a scorch mark on the board but amazingly the computer it was in still worked. That was enough for me to always go for good suppressors since you never know when a surge might strike.
