I am having issues with one particular color of filament. I only have issues with light brown filament. I have tried two different vendor filaments. I’ve tried Elegoo and Deeplee. I have multiple colors of Elegoo filaments, and they all work EXCEPT light brown. It will print with the color when it’s the only color I’m using for the print, but once I use it with a two-color print it fails. It will print for about 15 minutes and then over time it seems like the gears inside of the extruder fails to move the filament to the nozzle and over time it clogs the extruder and then I have to completely take apart the extruder and clear the clog. I bought a brand-new extruder assembly and nozzle and it still gets clogged with my light brown. I do know about heat creep, so I’ve adjusted multiple settings to hopefully have it not be an issue. I’m wondering if the problem relates to retraction settings. Seems odd because I can print up the same design with any other color and it prints without issue.

I’ve used the default generic filament profile and the bambu basic pla profiles with these two as they have worked with my other filaments. The last time the Eleggo clogged my extruder I was watching it closely while printing. The filament loaded and purged out of the nozzle during the initial loading of the filament and then I did not notice if the filament was extruding / feeding into the nozzle after that.
Get a pair of calipers and measure the diameter of the filament at a few different areas.
Elegoo is usually pretty good, but I have gotten a few spools that have thin sections leading to extrusion issues. The solution is almost always pull a few feet out, cut it off, and reload.
Side note: Elegoo’s support is actually pretty good. Surprising right? Last time, I took a picture of the calipers reading 1.5 mm and they mailed me a new spool.
Ah man thank you. I’ll try that. I just think it’s odd that I can print with the color if it’s a single-color print, it just won’t work with multi color.
I might be wrong. It is just an easy thing to check. Especially if it is only on one filament.
Multicolor is considerably harder on the extruder.
I would still check heat creep. Make sure the fan is going and working well.
Dude! You were right! It was heat creep. Not sure why, but my settings only had the chamber fan going. I turned the part fan onto 80% and my light brown is printing without issue. I just thought it was odd that I only ever had an issue with light brown. Now I have only retried the Deeplee filament. Since both my Deeplee and Elegoo was having the same issue I’m sure my Elegoo light brown will work as well.
I have found that when printing PLA and PETG, it is best to leave the door and top cover open a bit, 20-25 mm or 1 inch. That allows the heat to escape and the chamber temp stays under 40 C. The color formulation may have something to do with why it is just the one color.
