X1C front cover

Printed several models with no trouble, went to print a second copy of a successful model, received message “Front cover fell off” Went to check, and sure enough, the cover was hanging from the fan wire. Put cover back on, resumed print, and received another front cover fell off message! Went put it back on, and couldn’t. After careful inspection, discovered the nozzle was hanging from it’s wires. Inspected, and discovered that the nozzle had snapped off of the brass pipe that goes through the extruder - Replaced the complete hot end assembly with a spare, and started a new print. Layer 4 of 5 on this model started sounding like the nozzle was dragging on the model - it was. Canceled this print, performed a complete self rest including a bed leveling successfully. Started a new print of the same model, and it failed at the same point, layer 4. BTW, I DID check both of the hot end mounting screws.
Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?

Make sure the printer is homing correctly. A short ptfe tube or “mods” can cause an incorrect home position which will in turn cause the head to miss the cutter location and knock the cover off.

That may solve the knocked off front cover, but what about the nozzle dragging on the 4th layer? I think that is what is causing the front cover to be knocked off. It is as if the z axis is not lowering after printing layer 3… But I have run calibrate and all seems OK…

HUH! I decided to print a benchy…just to see if I could have a corrupt stl file - Benchy now on 20th layer, and prints perfect, more to follow when the print is complete…

OK, here’s the deal - The benchy printed perfectly! This leads me to believe that the STL file was/is corrupt, possibly from being uploaded from my PC to the X1C via an on again off again LAN. Next step is to improve the LAN so I don’t have this problem again.
