X1C has been producing only failed prints for 3 weeks

For about 3 weeks now, I haven’t been able to get a single clean and usable print.
All prints come out with a rough and uneven surface. Additionally, all layers can easily be pulled apart.

So far, I’ve replaced the following parts:

  • 2x complete hotend (thermistor, ceramic heater, cooling fan)
  • Filament cutter
  • Nozzle wiper
  • Hardened steel extruder gear assembly
  • PTFE tubes

I have also recalibrated the printer multiple times and run diagnostics, but unfortunately, without any results.
All threaded rods of the heated bed have been cleaned and re-lubricated twice within the past 3 weeks.
The carbon rods have also been cleaned several times with alcohol.

The filament profile I’m using has been working perfectly for a year without any issues up until now.
I use Geeetech PLA and have already tested different temperature settings (190/195/200/205/210/215/220°C), but this didn’t lead to any noticeable improvement. Even with original Bambu filament, the same issues occur.
I’ve ruled out the AMS as the cause since I also tried printing with an external filament spool—again, resulting in a failed print.

At this point, I’m truly out of ideas.
I’ve already contacted Bambu support, but their first response only suggested increasing the temperature. However, as mentioned, I’ve already tried this multiple times without success. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!


That’s sounding like moisture. Many think that because spools show up in nice vacuum bags with a sachet of desiccant, the filament is dry. The exceptions are spools that are dry. The majority have significant amounts of water.

Also important is how you store filament and what kinds of humidity it sees. It absorbs water out of the air. Higher humidity and it absorbs more. At some point the water vaporizing in the extruder starts causing popping and sizzling noises and the pressure pulses from steam glop out melty filament.

It’s a whole topic unto itself. And maybe it’s not moisture but you said everything but that you dry your filament and eliminated a lot already. But also your descriptions kind of sound like it’s water.

You did a lot, tried a lot but did not mention one vital thing…

Are you trying to print things from 3MF files and the issue started out of the blue, like after updating Studio ?
If so then please load and model or the Bambu test cube, slice it with a default profile and see how it comes out.

You have severe extrusion and or temp problems causing the filament to act like this.
If your calibration is good and you have the same problem with new files (not existing 3MF) I could only think of the extruder.
Take it out, take it apart and take a really good look at those transport wheels and their grooves.
If clogged up then the filament can slip, resulting in under-extrusion issues that can already mess up your calibration and from there only get worse.
I use a needle to pop out or scrape out stubborn gunk that won’t come out of the groves with use a stiff brush.
While at it also check how firm the teflon tube still connects to the extruder.
The tube and quick fitting can wear out over time, resulting in a lot of free movement - which in return is no good for retractions and such.
Always good to have a set of these quick connectors at hand as they usually fail when you need to print something urgently.
