I noticed that the Bambu Labs X1c is uploading massive amounts of data. It has uploaded 22.5gb and downloaded 141.72 in the past 24hours. It has been idle during this time. We have only streamed 17gb of Netflix in the same time. Anyone else with access to this type of network data seeing the same or not seeing?
The only thing I could think of is the internal camera uploading 24x7 even when printer is idle?
Do you have a static IP assigned to the printer? It is acting like something else has taken that IP, or the network controller (looks like unifi) has mis-classified the device - mine does that occasionally
Hi naPS It is dynamic IP handed out from the Omada DHCP Router. I associated the name to the printers MAC Address.
Weird. Sounds like it’s the right device. Turn it off and see if it continues
I turned it off. It’s possible I left Bambu studio open with camera streaming on.
That still seems like a lot given how crappy the camera quality us
I find the downstream even more interesting: Even when streaming to Bambu Studio (which would explain the upstream) – why does the printer receive 7× as much data as it sent?
Hi,
Do the values include traffic within your network? These data usage trackers often don’t distinguish between the traffic within the network and internet usage.
Is any app that communicates with the printer open?
To my knowledge, the camera doesn’t upload video to the web. The videos are saved into the SD card. Streaming is a P2P and only requires the Internet if the stream goes to a device outside your network (e.g. mobile phone on mobile data).
Yes, the values include the internal traffic on the network.
In case anyone else stumbles across this thread. I discovered the cause.
I had left bamboo studio open in play mode on the internal video camera which streamed over the period of a day to my laptop
This represents a high monetary cost for Bambu in the cloud. They would be wise to manage this activity when the printer is idle. It should time out. One may wonder why they wouldn’t already have done something about this. I’m curious.
The steaming doesn’t pass by the Cloud. If I am not mistaken, there is some initial communication, maybe to certify the process.
Otherwise, I agree, the expense would be outrageous.
There was a YouTube channel that I found. He talks about the amount of data being uploaded. He found there is a cache file in the Bambu lab program the is being sent back to the mothership in China. There’s no real way of knowing what they are looking at or what they wanting.
Just use Wireshark It is your own private network you can always figure out what is being sent.
@JoeyJoe Don’t believe any shitty YouTube video you find. It’s true that the printer keeps logfiles, but it’s not true that these leave the machine without you explicitly clicking “upload logs”. There’s a huge thread on Reddit about that video, with some good comments.
Thanks Ho lol, I was skeptical about the video from the get go. I always have my doubts about what I find on YouTube and other places. I’m sure they government would have banned it like TikTok and DJI (in talks). If that was case.
Also, the X1Plus team, who “hacked” the X1C firmware, clarified that there isn’t suspicious behaviour from BL data collection. So, these are only conspiracy theories.
As you can see from the initial image, there is a considerable amount of internet usage, so the assigned IP doesn’t count at all.
70.8 mb of traffic for my X1C over the last week.
Unifi network with a UDMP and U6 Pro. Firewall rules and vlans set up but the X1C is on the main lan…
