X2D and old AMS?

The Standard AMS is Plug and Play so that will work fine, only the AMS lite is not supported on the X2D

Can I connect my 4 AMS units with a Filament Track Switch to the X2D?

And do I need additional 4in1 PTFE adapters?

I don’t see why not, but I would plan on making your configuration as short as possible and the gradual bends in the PTFE tubing having as little flexibility as possible to maintain those bends.

With the way the tubing runs into the back right side to go through the buffer then to the back left side to turn around and go back to the right again up to the extruder, it’s basically doing three 180 degree loops (back of AMS, buffer to the internal feed, than the final 180 to get through to the extruder) it’s asking a lot of one AMS to begin with. I think that’s why people are having feeding issues. You really have to have a solid PTFE routing setup for nice feeding on this printer because it’s such a long bendy path.

Seems like the FTS is adding a lot of resistance and people even have problems with AMS 2 pro, I could imagine that the weaker AMS 1 might fail to feed filament, at least reliably.

In my opinion, the FTS solves less real world problems than you expect at the beginning. The problem is, that it can only switch two groups with its two inputs. so when you want to use two filaments that are in two AMS but they are both connected to the same FTS input, then it will still have to unload and reload at each filament change. You still save some time and waste, because you only have to prime the nozzles and not flush the other filament. But what you really want with two filaments and two nozzles is keeping them loaded throughout the entire print without any unloads.
For that, I think a manual track switch that allows you to assign each AMS individually is more useful in most cases. I have assembled but not yet installed this one: The „Four In Two“ PTFE Adapter - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

I will skip the FTS and use that instead. Less cost, less friction and at least for me more flexibility.

Just a short update…

In April, I ordered and installed the FTS and put a 4 to 1 adapter in front of each FTS inputs. This setup works flawless for my since day one. The AMS 1 has enough power for pushing filements to both extruders. :+1:
