X2D print quality POLL

Hi. I’m considering upgrading from my X1C to the new X2D.
There are several forum posts from X2D users who are dissatisfied with the print quality compared to their previous printers, so I’ve decided to ask all users about their experience through a survey.
How does the print quality of your X2D compare to the model you used previously?

I guess that is a typo and should read X2D instead of H2D?

Für mich klar besser, da ich vorher noch keinen Drucker hatte. Eigentlich bin ich momentan Super zufrieden mit den Druckergebnissen.

Too early to tell. What I have printed so far looks very good (mostly PLA), but the heated chamber is one of the primary reasons why I bought this and that should be a much bigger factor in print quality for engineering type materials.

If you have two identical items, printed using same filament, on almost same settings, it’s quite comparable. I’ve printed today another Item on X2D, and putting it side by side next to Item printed on my previous printer (P2S), difference is easy to notice.

I remember when the Prusa Mk4 came out and I was thinking of upgrading my Mk3s+. There were a litany of comments about how the print quality was so much worse on the Mk4 when compared to the Mk3.

Another poll might be, “do people expect the X2D print quality to improve with firmware updates?”

I’m curious because BL don’t appear to push out a lot of updates, at least nothing like Prusa do.

I have a question for all YouTube reviewers out there then. How do they review if they don’t even notice that the printing quality is worse? It clearly is, and I’m not alone with the issue.
Of course, all of them claim that their reviews are honest and BL has no influence on their opinion, even though BL sends them units for testing.

My X1C is printing flawlessly at 1500 hours, I’m still in setup phase with my X2D only 10 hrs right now figuring out the multi head workflow and best setup for it with two AMS2’s…

Print Quality? H2D is slightly better than the X1C, (using the same filament settings on both) the H2D is 25% faster than the X1C using the same settings…

For my money the X2D is a clear upgrade over the X1C, a better machine… (with 50 micron accuracy now)

I know it’s my first post, and compared to most of you guys I’m still a newbie… But I won’t give up either one for anything… As far as I’m concerned they are the best 3D home printers on the market today… Better than the Prusa Core One and the Anycubic clones…

I don’t have an X2D yet but waiting for the solo version to become available again. Currently still on an X1C. A question for those who made the jump and apparently find quality worse: My main gripe with the X1C print quality are VFAs, e.g. a slight wavyness in walls , especially in X direction. I learned from YouTube reviews, that the finer belt toothes of the X2D all but eliminate those. Can you confirm that?
How do you find quality worse compared to X1C / P1 / P2S?

I can confirm that, indeed, VFAs are much reduced with the X2D, and I was quite astonished by the improvement in this specific area.
However, almost every other aspect is worse: issues with extrusions, inconsistent layers, blobs, and tangles here and there, and even some minor stringing with PLA.
I’m comparing the quality to the P1S which I replaced with the X2D, and these are my observations after 200 h with the X2D, which to me are not worth the upgrade. Overall, I see it as a rather huge quality downgrade compared to the P1S.

People will try to print dual colour with both nozzles then they will say device is defected, just wait.. like those with a 2x4 jeep when they notice they stuck in the mud - surprised Pikachu face -

Wow this poll is quite telling.

Only 41 votes, so the accuracy may not be so telling. We need more votes, but even so, people are making judgements based on different prints and different filaments. There is no standards applied here and no way to make “quantitative” measurements of the results. That means it can be kind of subjective. Not even considering experimenter bias.

My own judgement is that it is about the same as my X1C was, which I am now learning from feedback here was not that good. :slight_smile:

I don’t have the X1C to compare it to, but it’s a significant drop in print quality to the H2 series.

I’m generally disappointed with the print quality. I’d say it’s on par with our P1S print farm quality.

I received my X2D two days ago and so far, print quality is a clear improvement over my X1C. Walls are much cleaner due to VFAs completely gone, somehow more consistent extrusion and better overhangs. At least for PLA, had no time for something else yet.

I have the impression, that either quality of X2D varies quite a bit, maybe many X2D are somehow defective or quality of the X1C/P1x varies a lot between units. Or all of them :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Eg when you had a X1C at the better end of the scale and your X2D is more at the bottom of the range, the X1c might deliver better quality. If both units are in the midrange, the X2D brings a solid improvement. If you had a poor X1C and an exceptional X2D, you will say that the X2D is printing unbelievably better.

I think you are pretty spot on with your thoughts.

I might add that group-think may be an additional factor.

All the issues that people are having is very distressing. I feel genuinely bad for those troubles.

It’s like a friend getting sick and you start to wonder if even little ache or pain might be that you are catching the same.

Well, I had my son send me the print from his X1C that he made for my wife so I could print one on my X2D. His came out flawlessly with PLA, so I wanted to see how they directly compare and… I can’t really find much difference.

His print had a little stringiness to one section, but that was probably due to some dampness in his filament. The X2D layer lines are more consistent compared to the X1C (filament dryness?). Both prints are fine. I would expect that the X2D will pull ahead with engineering filaments.

Why so many reported problems? Maybe there are production issues. Could be quality variations with some of the parts. The machines has a large number of components that all need to work together.

I think the bottom line is that the X2D can meet and exceed its predecessor, but some of the production gremlins need to be ironed out and hopefully-existing machines can be updated to address existing problems.
