X2D sounds like a dog barking when printing?

I don’t know if anyone else has found this out but my X2D sounds like a dog barking when printing. Not only does the AMS 2 Pro make a knocking sound, but the actual printer sounds like a dog when the tool head accelerates. I was laughing at first but it is actually impossible to sit in a room while this thing prints. Man I miss my X1C..

You’re hearing a Spiral Z hop retraction, from default profiles, with it’s insane acceleration and jerk.

You can assign “slope” etc to avoid spirals and still go fast, but that may come with quality issues on retractions.

If you want to arrest that noise, you can do it all in one screen with orcaslicer, or you can do it in bambustudio via 2 screens - 1) machine - motion ability - lower the system-wide jerk, 2) process - speed - set lower accelerations. I actually dont know if this is categorized as the first action of “travel” or the tail end of a “inner wall [etc]” so maybe some testing is in order for which specific controls reduce it. The system wide setting for jerk will do more than just change the hop motion, it will change all motion, so YMMV

With mine the most noticeable noise is from AMS retracting.

Also If I open any door the fans get too sharp. But otherwise not too many noises, but it is not silent!

Maybe you can make some clip to show exactly what is going on?

You’re right, I think that’s exactly what it is, I was kneeling down watching it and every time the lead screw turned it make that recoil noise. One of the first things I noticed when setting up this printer was the lead screws aren’t actually connected at the top like in the X1C. Would that make any difference?

It’s probably like the P2S which has a loud knock at every z-hop. I’ve set z-hop type to normal (slope won’t work), which helps s little bit, but just a little. I have tried every possible thing suggested in the related P2S threads but to virtually no effect. I wish you could set Z speed and acceleration but that’s greyed out.

It makes the printer close to impossible to use in a flat, I’ve already had complaints from the neighbors.

Edit: the A1 does not do this noise at all.

Edit 2: i could want to upgrade the P2S to a X2D but won’t do it if it’s get another noisy machine I can barely use a night.

Yeah, the X1C didn’t make these noises either, nor does the A1 mini. You could say it’s because the X2D is faster, but that doesn’t show true in print times. X1C still prints quicker in like-for-like scenarios

Just dropping in to say that in the most recent firmware Bambu has added Z-hop noise reduction which has improved my ‘z bark’ noise levels immensely. Not gone, but I’m noticing them much less. Have you tried updating and re-running noise calibration?

When did that update come in? Haven’t had an update on X2D for weeks now

Version 01.01.01.00, dated 20260520 but I didn’t get it until I disabled LAN mode.

It’s (imo) cuz the toolhead of the x2d is heavier and the acceleration is very high, Bambu made the frame and belts and stuff sturdier now to handle it, but it still is physics at work. A wipe into spiral z hop has a lot of small movements to do going “back and forth” you can kinda see it in the slice preview travel visualizer.

But it makes the same noise on a P2S which has a print head the same weight as the X1C who apparently didn’t make that noise..

Also: when setting z-hop to normal (so no spiral shake) it’s barely better. The biggest noise IMO comes from the z axis mouvement itself, and there is no way to adjust that speed to make it more silent.

All speeds can be set so slow that the printing is barely audible, but you will still have a knock at every z-hop, which is very often.
