I just finished a large print for a filament re-spooler (V-Spooler X which is on MakerWorld) and am having issues with model holes being too small after printing. Looks like XY Hole Compensation could help but all the holes aren’t on horizontal planes and it looks like XY Hole Compensation can’t deal with those. Per the Wiki, I could also increase XY Compensation to compensate for some of the off plane holes but the model currently measures fine in X, Y & Z so doing this will probably affect normal size measurements too. All the model pieces are meant to have M3 inserts applied so it can be screwed together, so changing overall dimensions is probably a bad thing. This must be a common occurrence, so how do others deal with these problems? Appreciate any guidance.
I never bother with trying to tune holes. If it’s going to have a screw or rod go through it, it’s a simple matter to run a drill through the hole to open/round it up. Much less work than any other alternative…
For inserts, heat 'em up by jamming them on to the tip of a soldering iron and push them in. The hole size is secondary because the plastic will melt and flow. In fact, hole sizes for inserts should be under-sized.
