Hi. I noticed some resonances during printing, so I checked the gantry and found the problem. The Y axis doing some loud grinding noise, especially when moved slowly. I re-lubed the rods according to the manual, but no change. Could you please verify if your P2S does the same?

I lubed the Y rods, all pulleys and adjusted the belt tension according to the manual. It changed nothing, so there is another problem. The printer is 1 week old.

The bearings used for the round linear rods (for the Y-Axis, X-Axis im not quiet sure) are using a sytem of recirculating steel balls. These need a small amount of play to function and not bind up as they dont have cages like for example radial ball bearings.
In industrial applications those would be filled with thick grease, in our printers they are just slightly oild, therefor the “loud” and unusual operating noise.
But, these sound perfectly fine.
As long as there are no marks / ground up debris on your rods, everything is as it should be.
Thank you very much! Sounds indeed the same, but I find it strange since my old Creality printer didn’t have such noise and play in the gantry. Personally I thought Bambu should be better and less noisy.
I received today my P2S the sound is horrible i hate it, doesn’t feel quality at all, a lot of vibration sounds like your videos, in some movements is horrible.
IDK if this is normal but feel terrible (i have A1 Mini, P1S and H2D and this is the worse sound of all printers…)
Strange. Even my old Creality printer has a smooth y-axis, that’s why those resonances feel wrong to me on a brand new bambu machine.
Support wants to send me a new belt and idlers - but everyone I asked has the same noise on their P2S so I don’t know why Bambu think that would help in my case.
In my case the problem is the model, is a circular one but isnt perfect and have a lot of polygons, and this make the printer to make a lot of Zigzag movements in this circle.
With another model with near perfect circle the noise disappear.
For me this P2S have this flaw, the plastic covers vibrations in some scenarios are too much and can be solved if put some little plastic/foam when mount for don’t install plastic with metal (no glue necessary).
1$ of foam can solve this… (but disassemble the side panels aren’t easy in this printer)
Try to print this model the big one (print 10 minutes don’t need much time to see the sounds :P) i think this print make all P2S to make this “weird vibration plastics noises”
I don’t think it comes from the side panels. If I hold both panels the noise from the movement is still there. I think it comes directly from the gantry, seems like the bushings on the y axis got some play and rattle around at specific speeds. Like @seahawk137 said.
I also have an issue similar to what you’re experiencing. Quite weird right? I lubed everything and will check again when I have time. This is on printing the benchy that comes stock on the printer - maybe that’s why.
After failed print with P2S and supertack plate (the one i use in P1S) i put to print to H2D this model and what difference, no resonance sounds or vibrations sound clean and perfect.
For the moment i’m very disappointed with P2S, not “an upgrade” from P1S for the moment…
I’ve made some test Files to stress the speed and vibraitons with circular and randam zig-zag patterns.
as you can see, i’ve pretty much maxed out my flow rates and speeds.
For me, the soundlevel of the mashine is what i would consider “normal”.
Just the last test with the fast repetitive zig-zag shows some resonance in the right side panel.

I also did some research today… and had success. I lubed all rods AGAIN with more grease and tried to hit the complete rod with grease. (also the backsides) Then I moved the gantry slowly over the lube, so it can penetrate the bearing nicely.
I also removed the backside pulleys again and noticed some residue on one side of the top pulley. I cleaned it and greased the inner side of the back pulleys, like where the grease would hit the pulley when placed on top of the belts. (according to the manual).
I run the same print and the rattling noise is much less noticeable and quieter. Thank god. So I think is has something to do with the pulleys / belts not running centered.
Note: When the back pulleys are loose, the vibrations while manual / slow movement by hand are also completely gone.
I cutted the part with the resonances from the last print, so you can test it out easily:
I placed two of them in X and Y direction, with standard 0,2mm profile, and did a new video:
The high pitched rattle noise is gone, I think it sounds pretty normal now.
Good question, I used the stuff provided with the printer as it looks like they used the same in the manual. But yeah, it’s more like grease than oil. Hope it’s ok.
You don’t seem to have the same issue, sounds alright to me.
What bothers me is the fact that the belt still hits the side of the pulley, but it’s less noticeable thank to the grease. Long term there will be more wear on the belt and maybe other problems. But there is only one position for the pulley, so nothing I can do against it.
