Y axis homing trouble

I posted earlier trouble after a firmware update with the Y axis not homing correctly. It seemed to go away, but came back yesterday after a long print when starting a new print. One thing I noticed with the power off, is the force to manually move the head on the X axis vs just the Y axis is much greater. I dont remember the force required when new and was wondering it that is abnormal? Posted is video link of the incomplete Y axis home. You can see and hear that the head is not going back far enough on a couple attempts. When this happens, I get the bang when it rapids to the front RH corner.

A different guy had a piece of plastic stuck to the rear of the linear rail, that was hard to see. Something to check. I was going to say loosen the belt and check bearings, but all bearings are used for the x axis homing too. My guess is something on the rail.

Sensorless homingis just looking for resistance. I think an amperage spike on the stepper motor, but I’m guessing on that. So, if anything is stuck to the rail, the printer thinks thats the end of travel.

If it is harder to move by hand, the firmware has nothing to do with it.

Now that I watch it again, are the cutter things sticking open?

The cutter arms move freely and index fine. I can run several prints with normal homing, then out of the blue with the same print file, it does that weird incomplete y axis home on a few cycles. Thats when it does the whack. I did notice one of the first times it was doing a nozzle wiping and totally missing the rubber block, making me think it was way off on the Y axis. I did just look at the back of the y axis rail and it was clear. I can manually move the head to rear stop position and back many times without any signs of resistance other than the cutter levers.

I looked like there was a strand of filament at the back of the y axis rail that could have been interfering with the solid hit for the axis home. I’ve since started and stopped about 10 prints and there has been none of the previous homing abnormalities. I’ll keep and eye out and post anything that comes up, thanks for the suggestion!

I’ve watching the homing of every print I do and after about 10 prints it failed again on the y axis home. I stopped it right away an ran the same file and it homed fine. Bambu CS responded and more or less ended my ticket by saying they will look into it and go back to the previous firmware. Its hard for me to believe its the firmware and just a handful of people having problems.

Somehow the machine is getting a false bump from something. I may take out the cutter levers and look inside to see if there could be something that might hang them up and cause enough of a resitance to trigger the home bump feedback, or what ever its called.

Does the previous firmware fix it? Sometimes, firmware can cause issues for some people and not others. Especially with constant hardware revisions. You would be amazed how many different iterations of boards they go through. The x1c has had so many part numbers, its mind blowing. I know the h series has already had changes too. Probably why they dont keep all parts in the store. It would just confuse people. Just a thought.

It seems to. I have the cutter module and birdseye so I was really looking forward to this version. My machine was from the day one launch, assume early versions. I would think with the camera, there would be a quick check to make sure the homing was in the ballpark, wouldnt take much of a quick check on the heat bed markings.

I removed my filament cutter levers and inspected them, they are fine and operate smoothly. I seem to get a bad home when I first start up the printer. I got another video of it tonight. Watch the levers with the y axis home.

Are you out of warranty? I would probably try to return it at this point, and hope the next one doesnt have some weird issue. Having to run old firmware would be a deal breaker for me.

I bought mine day one of the launch. I still dont know if this is firmware related or not, its odd because will home fine for 20 prints then fail for like 3, then be ok again. If it gets past the first homing, its fine, even with the 2cd homing before the bed leveling.

I have the cutter option and birdseye and fan upgrade. I waited so long for the firmware for this, it sucks to have to go back.

I have some similar problem.
During it cannot unload the filaments anymore because it doesn´t find the position to do so.
Makes a bad noise when it tries to go further back than possible.
I wanted to recalibrate, but I cannot until I get the filaments in both heads unloaded.

I have exactly the same issue on my H2D. I think its also an early release model. Sometimes homing works, sometimes it does not. Always on the y axis. Sometimes it even misses the Filament Cutter while unloading. For me, the issues started after upgrading to 01.03.00.00. I ran a Full Calibration after the upgrade and the Printer cleaned its nozzle on the buildplate.

One thing I noticed, was that even after I downgraded to the previous firmware, the display prompts did not match what was happening at time, like foreign material bed check, nozzle cleaning, bed level. Also the homing sequence was different from the earlier firmware when I had the newest installed.

So something was messed up. I did a full factory reset, full calibration, shut down, power up and ran a print and then did the upgrade to latest firmware, full calibration and shut down and power up. Now the prompts match the action and the homing sequence looks normal again. I’ve since ran about 20 prints and many, many manual homing cycles and its been fine.

Could be coincidental, maybe not.

Thats what i also noticed. Im was on 01.03.00.00 for a time. The display prompts did match after a factory reset. But now, a few prints in, the y axis alignment is making trouble again. I recorded a video, and sent it to the bambu support. They told me that they are not aware of this issue but i should try to downgrade the firmware. I did the downgrade and the printer seems fine again.

Bambu support said the same thing me. But what good is the enhanced fan and birdseye camera without the new firmware.

I messaged support again and they said the looked at my logs again and noticed some irregularities with the xy motors. They sent me new set. I have not installed them yet, I will if mine has another bad y axis home.

Manually move your tool head to the rear and make sure it moves freely and both ends bottom out evenly at the end. You might want to remove the filament cutter arms and inspect them to be sure the cycle smoothly.
